Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City. CAMBA serves more than 65,000 individuals and families each year, citywide, including almost 13,000 youth. Our 180 programs in over 100 locations improve the lives of a diverse cross section of New Yorkers. From homelessness prevention in Staten Island to supportive housing in the Bronx; from employment training in Manhattan to after school programs and college access in Brooklyn; from family shelter and support in Queens to increasing affordable housing across the city, CAMBA provides holistic services to help struggling New Yorkers stabilize their lives and become self-sufficient.
Emergency Transitional Congregate Housing Program 1: CAMBA’s Transitional Congregate Housing program started in 2007 and provides nine transitional units for the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) Emergency Placement Unit which are for single men and/or women only. Each individual has their own locked room and COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is available to provide case management services. The program’s goal is to ready individuals for permanent housing placement through stabilization and self-sufficiency. : Emergency Transitional Congregate Housing Program 2: CAMBA’s Emergency Transitional Congregate Housing program provides ten units of emergency transitional congregate housing for single men and women who are HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) clients. HASA is the sole referral source for this housing. Each individual has their own lockable room but shares common space such as the bathrooms, living room and kitchen. Clients receive case management and residential/operational services such as meals and assistance when they move to permanent housing. Case management support is an integral part of achieving the program’s goal of helping clients to attain self-sufficiency. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that clients are connected to and maintain primary health care; assisting them to find and secure permanent housing; and exploring and starting the process of returning to the workforce. A client stay is limited to six months. However, extensions can be granted by HASA.
