POSITION: SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

LOCATION: To be determined

POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist will provide speech language services to students with speech and language disabilities.

REPORTS TO: Director and Supervisor(s) of Special Education

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:

  1. A Master’s Degree in Speech Language
  2. A Maryland License in Speech Language

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of employment, the candidate must have:

  1. Knowledge of speech and language disabilities and appropriate therapy
  2. Demonstrated diagnostic skills in the area of speech and language
  3. Knowledge of and ability to administer speech and language assessment
  4. Ability to write evaluation reports and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  5. Knowledge of Special Education and the IEP
  6. Knowledge of the Medicaid billing
  7. Knowledge of educational and psychological assessments.
  8. Knowledge of the general education
  9. Understanding of and ability to maintain rapport with persons from diverse, cultural, ethnic, and racial groups.
  10. Demonstrated interpersonal skills when working with diverse groups (parents, other professionals, students, teachers, administrators, community agency representatives).
  11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  12. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:

  1. Administers speech and language assessments to students.
  2. Writes evaluation reports based on assessment results within given
  3. Provides speech and language therapy on an individual and group basis to students as prescribed by a student’s
  4. Provides consultation services to classroom
  5. Observes students and provide screening information to IEP
  6. Attends IEP
  7. Develops IEPs and writes IEP goals and objectives within given
  8. Maintains data and provides quarterly progress
  9. Completes and submits monthly Medicaid billing forms and therapy
  10. Participates in parent conferences and team
  11. Demonstrates initiative and self-regulation.
  12. Maintains good organizational skills and professional
  13. Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.
  14. Comes to work promptly every day.
  15. Works flexible hours as
  16. Works under stress and meets all
  17. Travels from school to school as necessary.

OTHER JOB DUTIES: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.) Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director of Special Education.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:Current Maryland Licensure in Speech Language Pathology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.

UNUSUAL DEMANDS:May be subject to a flexible work schedule.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ten (10) month or eleven (11) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools’ salary schedule for teachers. All employees are encouraged to have automatic payroll deposit.

EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF POSITION:2023-2024 school year

References must be directly related to education experience and must include immediate supervisor.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
