POSITION: Gifted &Talented STEAM Ecosystem Expansion Demonstration Project Tutor

LOCATION:Calvert Middle School

POSITION SUMMARY: After school, Saturday, or Summer academic enrichment for students in the Gifted and Talented Program who participate in the STEAM Ecosystem Expansion Demonstration Project (SEED).

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Gifted & Advanced Learning

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE:

  1. Valid Maryland State Teacher Certification, preferred
  2. Bachelors degree, preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTITES, AND RESPONSIBILITITES:

  1. Provide instruction and classroom management for secondary students online, public school campus and Calvert Library.
  2. Nurture and maintain professional and positive relationships with classroom teachers, students, and collaborators.
  3. Strong classroom management skills.
  4. Participate in professional development workshops and training and be able to provide and receive feedback.
  5. Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and STEAM Collaborators.
  6. Communicate immediately regarding any circumstances impacting effective program delivery, rescheduling needs, accommodations for students or teachers, teachers/site administration requests, etc.
  7. Demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence when communicating with both students and adults.
  8. Adjust presentations to adapt to different learning abilities.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively within a team as well as independently.
  10. Maintain a positive “can do” attitude; be proactive, flexible, and show initiative with projects, planning, and all activities related to this position.
  11. Demonstrate a Growth Mindset as an ability to take risks and continually learn.
  12. Demonstrate and maintain strong organizational and time management skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Students must be currently enrolled at or a graduate of Bowie State University. Students from all teaching disciples are encouraged to apply. Position is grant funded. Pay rate is based on the 2022-2023 Workshop Pay and Special Pay for Employees.

State law requires that anyone hired after October 1, 1986, who will have contact with school children, must be fingerprinted and submit to a criminal background investigation. Federal law requires that a new employee must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
