The CalSTRS Enterprise Risk & Financial System Support Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as a Financial Accountant I on the Enterprise Risk Management & Quality Assurance team.

The Enterprise Risk Management & Quality Assurance team coordinates enterprise risk management activities; manages the enterprise resource planning system access; and testing of branch policies, procedures, and other internal controls.

Under the general supervision of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Manager, the Financial Accountant I (FA I) Specialist performs technical and professional financial, accounting activities related to the complex development, implementation and maintenance of the ERM framework and risk mitigation. The Specialist reviews and updates the documented Entity Level Controls (ELC) and periodically conducts control testing. The Specialist validates Financial Services Branch (FSB) adherence to policies and established internal controls by performing internal control testing and reporting the results to FSB management. The work performed by the Specialist involves underlying assets, systems and transactions that are considered complex, with the risk of error being substantial to the organization.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• Ability to effectively work with all levels of leadership across the organization.
• Knowledge and experience with enterprise risk management/compliance.
• Skills to perform technical and professional accounting and analytical activities.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize complex and sensitive workload issues.
• Ability to prepare and present technical information in a format suitable for management/board reporting.
• Skills to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both orally and in writing
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

This position may supervise staff in the future.

Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2 days per week.

Working Conditions:

All staff of CalSTRS are employees of the State of California and subject to California employment taxes and withholdings. Upon appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment with CalSTRS.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,164.00 - $105,792.00 per year
