Calspan Corporation is Hiring a Design Engineer Near Hampton, VA

Overview

Calspan Systems - Advanced Solutions is a trusted partner to the DoD, NASA and the aerospace & defense industry providing specialized expertise and high quality ground and flight test systems with a focus on hypersonics. We are looking for a full time Design Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.

  • Partner with Senior Engineer to research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • Produce the design and analysis for assigned projects and provides assistance to the engineers and scientists
  • Assist with system design and analysis tasks using various classical methods and engineering codes/tools
  • Partners with Lead Engineer to support customer status meetings and reviews for assigned projects

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
  • 5 years of experience
  • Experience in structural and thermal analysis and composite structures or additive manufacturing

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Working knowledge of mechanical design techniques, drawing checking, drafting standards, and geometric dimensioning and tolerance
  • Previous exposure to machining and fabrication processes, interaction with shop personnel, and familiarity with manufacturing techniques are required
  • Experience in developing complex machined parts and assemblies
  • Knowledge of metal machining and joining
  • Skilled in Creo or Solidworks
  • Experience with design and analysis of ramjet and scramjet engines and related system design and analysis a plus
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis codes for engine flowpath, cycle analysis, and aero-thermal loads development a plus.
  • Ramjet/scramjet test experience, experience with high-speed vehicle design, propulsion integration and/or trajectory analysis and optimization codes a plus.
  • US citizenship required to obtain/maintain a DOD security clearance
