California University of Science and Medicine is Hiring an Open Rank Faculty in Medical Education program- part-time Near Colton, CA

Position Purpose

Our part-time hourly faculty position provides the opportunity to teach in different areas of the program depending on availability and needs. The two main areas of teaching include Clinical Skills and small group learning.

Essential Functions

Clinical Skills teaching may include:

  • Teaching clinical skills to medical students which includes providing constructive feedback on their performance. 
  • Assessing the students during clinical examinations (OSCE).
  • Come prepared for the sessions. The session plan and the resources will be sent by the Course Director in advance.
  • All clinical skills session encounters must be in strict confidence to maintain the integrity of the learning program as well as the privacy of students and standardized patients.
  • Student advising, mentoring and academic support as needed.
  • Participation in faculty development related to the Clinical Teaching Faculty program and other relevant curricular components. 

Small group teaching may include:

  • Facilitate weekly small-group meetings on clinical case-based discussions and/or sessions on public/population health, professionalism, and ethics. 
  • Student advising, mentoring and academic support.
  • Participation in faculty development related to the Clinical Teaching Faculty program and other relevant curricular components. 

Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications 

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficient skill in effectively using a computer and applications such as Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, presenting, and listening; display a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse individuals; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships while providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and use a computer; stand, walk, bend intermittently throughout the day.

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) or the equivalent degree.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with students, standardized patients, and faculty.
  • Interest in teaching students.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a pre-employment background check.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with college/university personnel, policies, and procedures, as well as current trends in higher education.
  • Specialty board certification and eligibility for a California medical license.
  • Clinical experience.
  • Teaching experience in academic medicine.

Working Environment

Working environments include a variety of University settings including online/virtual, lecture room, small group classrooms, and a simulated clinical setting. Moderate changes in temperature and noise.
