About the Position:

Housing and Residential Engagement provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean, and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Residential Engagement Specialist (Student Services Professional I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the direction of the Senior Coordinator and the Assistant Director, and as a member of the Housing and Residential Engagement team, the Residential Engagement Specialist (RES) works in conjunction with the Senior Coordinator and Assistant Director of Residential Engagement to support departmental programmatic efforts, administration of faculty mentor program and oversight of the Academic Resource Center. The Residential Engagement Specialist (RES) will assist in the coordination and administration of co-curricular programs including the Faculty Mentor Program, Peer Mentor Program, and other relevant initiatives within the department. They will actively participate in department committees as available, such as search committees for paraprofessional staff, student leaders, and full-time staff, to contribute to the department's decision-making processes. The Specialist will also take initiative and contribute broadly to the mission, vision, values, and decision-making processes within the Housing and Residential Engagement department. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or other job-related field. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, as well as research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information. Foundational knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data. Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews. Ability to clearly express ideas and make recommendations. Ability to write clear and concise reports. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
