Job/Department Summary:

Work independently, under the general supervision of the Tech Shop Supervisor, the Instructional Support Technician
provides comprehensive educational support services for the Departments of Civil Engineering (CIVL), Construction Management (CMGT), Concrete Industry Management (CIMT), and the California Pavement Preservation Center (CP2C). Duties include providing materials, supplies and equipment; monitoring laboratory facilities and infrastructure; operating and maintaining technical and/or scientific equipment; assisting faculty with assigned laboratory exercises and classroom demonstrations; assisting with development of new instructional activities, purchasing materials and equipment; providing safety training; being a liaison to faculty, utilizing laboratory facilities for either academic or research purposes; and ensuring that all applicable safety regulations and policies are observed during classes and labs, as set forth by federal, state, local, and CSU regulatory agencies.

Required Education and Experience:

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment used in the concrete and asphalt industries.
OR
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment used in the concrete and asphalt industries, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
OR
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment used in the concrete and asphalt industries may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • Bilingual.
  • Experience performing similar duties in an academic setting.
  • Bachelor of Science in a job-related field.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations that pertain to proper use of and disposal of hazardous materials including some chemical agents and media as set forth by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal-EPA), the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA), CSU, and the CSUC Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and local regulatory agencies.
  • Understanding of applicable University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.

Time Base: Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $52,668 - $91,404 per year.

The person holding this position is considered a “Limited Mandated Reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment.
