Job Summary

Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Director is responsible for the management and operations of the Child and Family Center, in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the implementation of policy, procedures, and systems for operating the Child and Family Center in compliance with state licensing regulations, University policies and procedures, and NAEYC accreditation standards.
  • Manages all financial aspects of the center, including annual budget and performance evaluation, tracking tuition revenue and deposits, handling all purchasing, including monthly procurement card paperwork. Seeks outside funding from IRA, grants, lottery, and other sources. Prepares and processes timesheets for staff and student assistants.
  • Creates and Oversees Staff and Student Teacher Training, Curriculum Development.
  • Oversees and maintains NAEYC Accreditation and State licensing Standards.
  • Actively seeks grants and supplemental funding for student parents.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Work-related knowledge and experience in an NAEYC Accredited program preferred. Experience and knowledge of regulations and requirements for state funded childcare programs. Decision and leadership skills to lead a team and implement ideas (director is the primary day-to-day leader). Critical evaluation skills to evaluate employee performance and encourage positive outcomes in employees (director is the direct supervisor). Current professional development participation and membership in NAEYC or CAAEYC. Fundraising/grant experience is also preferred.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • An undergraduate and an advanced degree in Child Development or closely related field required.
  • Educational coursework in childcare administration, parent education, ECE curriculum programming, leadership, advocacy, diversity and supervision of early childhood programs.
  • Four (4) years of director level experience in a childcare setting (infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms) including teaching and supervision of classrooms.
  • Professional experience in developing, implementing, and overseeing educational classroom environments.
  • Professional experience in hiring, mentoring, and supervising early childhood staff and student teachers in an educational setting.
  • Professional experience with state licensing protocols.
  • Fundraising/grant experience preferred.

Physical Summary

Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy-weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.

  • Possession of Child Development Permit at program director level
  • CPR/First Aid/Preventative Health Certification
  • Livescan Required

Compensation

Hiring Range: $7,240 - $7,500 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $7,240 - $10,860 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Additional Information
