Facilities Planning & Management consists of two divisions whose combined scope encompasses all aspects of Facilities at California State University, San Bernardino: Facilities Management and Facilities Planning, Design & Construction.
Job Summary
The Custodial Manager serves as the Higher Education Employee Relations Act (HEERA) manager for the Custodial staff and is responsible for the assignment and direct supervision of custodial team members. The Custodial Manager ensures that staff are maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, laboratories and other facilities. The Manager is also responsible for training employees, continuous improvement and quality control in custodial operations.
Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
Functional Oversight and Operations
Oversees the effective management and daily operations of assigned custodial staff including Assistant Manager (1), Leads (8), Night crew (6and Laborers (3). Supervises, coordinates, assigns and directs custodial, recycling, and campus relocation activities. Coordinates custodial support for campus events. Helps define priorities of work and communicates this information to all staff involved. Monitors work progress and completion utilizing a computerized maintenance management system. Manages custodial projects and cleaning for new construction. Assists in the formulation, development, interpretation, implementation, and development of policies, procedures, standards and programs related to Custodial Services. Oversees and exercises control over University budgets pertaining to Custodial Service Operations. Manages custodial contracts and notifies the Union of contract work as appropriate. Performs 24/7 call-in duties.
Leadership and Management
Works to ensure that the Custodial Services team is implementing best management practices on campus. Sets cleaning, and recycling expectations for campus buildings. Supports and moves new initiatives forward. Identifies current and future challenges and proposes solutions. Facilitates an environment that motivates, empowers, and inspires commitment from employees. Demonstrates commitment to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce. Works with a spirit of collaboration, inclusion, respect and collegiality. Creates a team environment where employees are recognized individually and as a team for their accomplishments and success. Builds competence in others through effective coaching, performance management and mentoring. Provides outstanding customer service to campus partners. Understands the importance of the built environment in student success.
Strategic Planning
Recommends, creates, and implements long and short term strategic and operational plans for Custodial Services. Develops plans and programs to improve campus sustainability efforts through recycling, sustainable custodial practices, and chemical use program. Ensures goals align with the overall mission of the University. Effectively communicates goals and objectives and trains employees on campus expectations.
University and Community Partnerships
As a member of the University community, ensures a community focused approach to custodial management. Identifies and anticipates campus community needs. Builds effective relationships both internally and externally. Initiates and develops strong working relationships with the community. Maintains vendor relationships to stay abreast of industry trends and to arrange for procurement of supplies and services. Maintains contact with peers throughout the CSU to be aware of system-wide custodial trends or issues. Works with outside groups to bring recognition to the campus for our efforts in custodial care, and sustainability. Meets with union officials as required to address personnel or policy issues.
Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, At-will, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
Key Qualifications
The successful candidate must have the ability to use good judgement in the scope of assigned authority; possess strong organizational abilities; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; effectively analyze situations and develop appropriate course of action; must be able to develop effective and collaborative working relationships with subordinate staff, union representatives, fellow managers, and supervisors using principles of outstanding customer service.
Ability to use a computer and different software including the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders.
Education and Experience
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in facility custodial operations and/or maintenance.
Three years leading and supervising the work of others in facility custodial operations.
Experience working in a higher education, commercial campus, or comparable institutional environment.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and experience, which includes coursework in facilities management, construction technology, building repair and maintenance, business administration, or related field.
Valid CA driver's license and insurance.
Salary
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,334 per month
Classification Salary Range: $3,750 - $10,417 per month
