DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Psychology Department at Sacramento State has 29 tenured/tenure-track faculty as well as multiple lecturers who serve more than 1,400 undergraduate majors and more than 50 graduate students. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The Psychology Department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university's Community Engagement Center and Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Through teaching, scholarship, and service we promote human equity, health and well-being, effective functioning, and respect for diversity. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the discipline of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and master's programs in applied behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology.
The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, four independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes. The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively.
POSITION DETAILS:
This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in Psychology beginning in the Fall 2024 semester.
The classification annual salary range for this position is $64,860 - $143,928; the anticipated annual starting salary is $75,000. Salary will be dependent upon CSU system-wide ranges, qualifications, and professional experience.
JOB DUTIES:

Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in clinical or counseling psychology (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Personality Theories, Psychological Testing) as well as other courses in their area of expertise.
Develop a focused and productive program of research in clinical or counseling psychology that demonstrates inclusivity in the involvement of undergraduate and graduate students and respect for diversity in their research topics.
Provide advising to a diverse body of undergraduate Psychology majors from a variety of backgrounds.
Supervise Master's level students.
Provide service to the department, college, University, and community through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Work as a cooperative member in the function of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, accreditation and program review.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. from an accredited university with a research and teaching focus in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. ABD applicants will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the degree must be completed by January 2025.
Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship in Clinical or Counseling Psychology by August 15, 2024.
Demonstrated commitment and evidence of conducting research in clinical or counseling psychology.
Demonstrated commitment and ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in pedagogy/educational practices.
Ability to work collegially in a multicultural environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Teaching experience in clinical or counseling psychology (e.g., Abnormal Psychology, Personality Theories, Psychological Testing) or related courses, at the college level.
Demonstrated ability or interest to contribute to other teaching needs within the department, such as introductory psychology, research methods, statistics, or other areas within candidate's expertise.
Demonstrated ability or interest in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies and perspectives that integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the curriculum.
Demonstrated ability or interest in conducting research with culturally diverse, marginalized, and/or underrepresented populations.
