About the Position:
The Student Health and Counseling Center strives to support students in achieving their academic, professional, and personal goals. Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is crucial for living a higher quality life and reaching your highest potential. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Director, Counseling and Psychological Services (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general supervision of the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Director, the Associate Director provides a full range of clinical and administrative services. Provides clinical consultation to the Counseling Center staff as well as leadership and expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental, and psychological well-being of students. Provides consultation services and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders on mental health and developmental issues. Will oversee the Student Wellness Student Support Services team regarding CAPS policies and the flow of students into CAPS. Provides administrative management for the CAPS liaison ship program and embedded clinicians programs. Provides administrative oversight around CAPS accreditation process through its accrediting body. Manage the CAPS peer review process including interdepartmental and inter CSU system systems. Oversee current legal and liability standards to inform changes to the center's clinical service delivery. Provides intake clinical interviews and psycho-diagnostic assessments, short-term individual and couples counseling, group counseling and psycho-educational group counseling, clinical triage and crisis intervention, case management, and collaboration with a consulting psychiatrist, and referrals to and consultation with academic and disability counselors and health center professionals on-campus as well as off-campus mental health professionals and agencies. Provides administrative and clinical supervision for professional staff. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Clinical expertise pertinent to a diverse college student population. Minimum of 5 years licensed experience in individual, group, and couple’s psychotherapy. Intake clinical interviews, including psycho-diagnostic assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment plan formulation, for students with a broad spectrum of psychological problems, ranging from adjustment issues to major psychiatric disorders. Demonstrated leadership and management skills with minimum of 1 year of experience in administrative and supervisory roles. Strong collaborative skills and ability to work with wide range of campus partners. Knowledge and expertise with the management clinical reception team. Short-term individual, couples and group counseling, and crisis intervention for psychological emergencies and high-risk clients. Knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds, ranging in age. Working effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. Demonstrated mental health consultation experience with an understanding of and strict adherence to legal guidelines and ethics code. Knowledge of California mental health laws and practices. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Computer skills for electronic record keeping. Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment fingerprinting. Education/License; Masters or Doctorate (PsyD or PhD) in Counseling or Clinical Psychology (or related field) from an accredited program. California license as a licensed psychologist, licensed marriage, and family therapist, licensed clinical social worker, or licensed professional counselor.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization in an area pertinent to CSUF college students (e.g., sexual identity development; immigration and acculturation issues; trauma work; suicide prevention).
