About the Position:

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Testing (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Oversees daily tasks of testing student assistants with exam proctoring, exam scheduling, exam delivery, and overall customer service to Disability Support Services (DSS) students, staff, and faculty. Ensures communication standards with the Testing Team and Associate Director of Operations including the oversight of the DSS Testing email, student or faculty concerns, and communication with other DSS staff.
Provides leadership and solutions to problems that arise, and serves as the first level supervisor when students or faculty ask to speak with a supervisor regarding the proctoring or administration of exams in DSS. Will work directly with the Associate Director of Operations and/or Director of DSS when needed. Consults with faculty regarding exam details that they are proctoring in the classroom or online, ensuring exams are fully accessible and students are provided with all accommodations. Advises faculty to ensure that online exams have the correct accommodated time in Canvas, and provide support for changing exam times within their Canvas courses for individual students.
Provides direct advisement to students to troubleshoot scheduling concerns, discuss exam options, and problem solve exam issues between faculty and students. Provides recommendations on improving the quality and excellence of our service to students, and creates/updates department policies and procedures accordingly. Oversees efforts to ensure exam integrity, video monitoring system within DSS, submitting incident reports and working in collaboration with Student Conduct. Maintains working knowledge and understanding of all California State University (CSU) systemwide policies, CSUF campus policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups, as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or a job related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.
General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration, including organizational, personnel, and fiscal management. Knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Counseling, Education, Higher Education Administration, Educational Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling, or Disability Services. Successful experience in a disability specialist or advising role, particularly with college students in a higher education environment. Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting. Working knowledge of CSU guidelines and practices.
