Accounting Manager - San Jose, CA

The California School Employees Association has an annual budget of approximately $80 million and a full-time staff of 300 employees. 

Role of the Accounting Manager:

• Report to the Senior Accounting Manager
• Manage a staff of 5 employees
• Manage general ledger, supervise the close process, G/L account reconciliation, accruals, payroll, fixed assets and serve as audit liaison
• Act as an advisor on financials and audits to officers who maintain financial records and tax filings 
• Supervise a volunteer audit bureau comprised of members who are trained to perform chapter audits
• Act as financial resource to the Senior Accounting Manager, staff, and member officers
• Assists with Federal and State tax filings

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Advanced degree and/or CPA preferred
• 5 years’ experience in a senior accounting manager role; experience managing a staff
• Experienced team builder, skilled at managing change 
• The ability to lead, influence, assign accountability, and exercise sound judgement
• Think strategically, anticipate consequences and summarize strategic options
• Accounting software, particularly Adaptive Planning, Great Plains and payroll software.

Examples of duties:

• Prepare annual budget for conference
• Review entries and reconcile accounts 
• Prepare reports and consult with auditors or legal staff 
• Monitor and report cash balances on a daily basis
• Maintain fixed asset and property tax records; complete tax filings
• Participate in IS upgrades
• Verify semi-monthly payroll, distribution of checks and transfer of funds between banks
• Prepare fiscal year-end closing entries, audit papers and related reports
• Participate in the selection and training of staff
• Monthly financial reporting
