California Proton Therapy Center is Hiring a Physics Assistant Near San Diego, CA

REPORTS TO: Director of Medical Physics 

SALARY RANGE: $40.00-53.00/hour (Dependent on education and experience)

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: 

The Physics Assistant will perform aspects of quality assurance processes related to radiation deliver equipment and patient-specific treatment plan delivery verification, in conjunction with, and support of the Physics team, in addition to other facility responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs patient-specific quality assurance (QA) including validation of dose distributions, beam output measurements, and treatment device mechanical QA for all treatment modalities
  • Performs monthly and annual QA on all treatment and imaging modalities under the supervision of board-certified medical physicist
  • Assist medical physicist in commissioning and acceptance testing of all new treatment modalities
  • Documentation of QA procedures
  • Assist medical physicist on all aspects of maintaining the radiation safety program, radiation safety training, and assisting in all-related radiation surveys as needed
  • Responsible for ensuring up-to-date calibrations on all survey and dosimetry equipment as instructed
  • Participate in data entry and submission of dosimetry data for clinical trials and registries
  • Perform data analysis for clinical process improvement and clinical research projects
  • Management of QA equipment
  • Adheres to all Physics QA procedures and policies
  • Develop automation software programs for clinical processes including QA and research activities
  • Participate in research and development activities under the supervision of Director of Medical Physics
  • Patient QA procedure(s) revised such that Physics Assistant will be under the supervision of Medical Physicists. Physics Assistant(s) will generate Patient QA and machine documentations for Medical Physicists to sign off/approve
  • All key decisions will also require Medical Physicists sign off and approval.

Qualifications/Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics or related science degree is required. Master’s degree from a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics program is preferred. 
    • Applicants with graduate degrees in physics, engineering, mathematics and related scientific disciplines are also encouraged to apply.
  • Technical problem solving and scientific data analysis skills required
  • Proficiency in computer skills including hardware, software and networking 
  • Experience with programming languages such as C , java, Matlab or Python is a plus. 
  • Ability to manage time and ability to communicate effectively both written and orally, and cooperate with others
  • Exemplary documentation and communication skills
  • Detail oriented and systematic in thought and approach
  • Flexibility, adapt easily to change
  • Modified work schedule often mid-day start
