Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal and / or Special Ed. Coordinator, provides counseling and consulting to assist in meeting the social, emotional and educational needs of students in regular and special education program;

consult with teachers, administrators, specialists, agency and district personnel and parents; counsel students; and perform related duties

  • Qualifications Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact and forge relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills;

high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple cases concurrently Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment with a proven ability to meet and complete multiple deadlines and tasks Expertise in evaluation and counseling skills and the ability to articulate these effective strategies to school leaders, teachers, instructional aides, and staff.

Ability to work individually as well as a part of a team Knowledge of and experience with RTI / SSPT programs and interventions required Minimum of two years experience working with students with mild / moderate disabilities (9-12) OR related experience working in public schools (e.

g., teacher, administrator) Responsibilities School Counselor will provide consultation services to key stakeholders - including parents, administrators, teachers, and staff - to support the socio-emotional development of specific students and the student body as a whole Support students across campus who have counseling in their IEPs and / or have been identified as needing early counseling interventions Work with specified students to express their emotions and feelings using various therapeutic techniques and assist them in developing insight into their own behavior Establish and manage DIS counseling caseloads and submit records, reports, and assignments promptly, efficiently, and within mandated timelines to Director of Special Education and / or to Admin Attend IEP meetings for students with DIS services to report on progress toward counseling goals Serve as a support / consultant for positive behavior support and intervention
