Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction, the Vocational Instructor prepares lesson plans, conducts lectures, performs class demonstrations, instructs both small and large groups in practices employed in the trade, provides individualized instruction for those who require it, provide hands on instruction in shop practices and provides related theory instructions and safety instruction which is enlisted to the trade. The instructor has an important role of providing information of an educational nature which can help other members of the team to better determine each student's treatment needs. The instructor has responsibility, once a plan is developed, providing through their classroom curriculum program, the types of experience which is compatible with this plan.

**Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

**Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Pursuant to the Public Health Orders (Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings and State and Local Correctional Facilities and Detention Centers Health Care Worker Vaccination Requirement) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines and Testing for Institution Staff issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post/position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.

SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
