Job Posting: Painter II (Correctional Facility)

Under direction of the Supervisor of Building Trades, the Painter II must possess skill in painting and finishing of interior and exterior of buildings, equipment and in use of hand and power painting tools. Demonstrates the best methods of painting and finishing. Ensures that work is carried out according to plans and specifications and is coordinated with other trades. Must be punctual and free from the condition of color blindness; read and write at a level appropriate to the classification. Maintains order and supervises the conduct of persons committed to the Department of Corrections; prevents escapes and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintains security of work areas and work materials; inspects premises and searches inmates for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs. May be required to undergo a physical and pulmonary examination for the respirator program. Other duties as assigned and required.
Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

CMC has two physically separated housing complexes, commonly referred to as "East" and "West". An emphasis is placed on providing all inmates with programs for self-improvement. These programs include academic and vocational education, work skills in prison industries and inmate self-help groups.
The Level III housing complex (East), which houses medium security general population inmates, is divided into four facilities. Each facility has its own dining room, classrooms, athletic fields, and two three-story housing units. The East housing complex has a fully licensed Correctional Treatment Center as well as a fully licensed 50 bed Mental Health Crisis Unit.
The West housing complex contains a Level I camp program for fire suppression, conservation, and other community service work.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.
Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
