JROTC SENIOR NAVAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR (12 Months)

Summary

Plans and supervises learning experiences for high school students in the JROTC curriculum. Instructs and supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Coaches NJROTC-related teams. Serves as the Department Chair for ROTC department.

Qualifications

  • Must be retired from military service under honorable conditions
  • Be a retired warrant or commissioned officer, in grades W-2 through O-6
  • Have served in the United States Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
  • Must be certified as an instructor by the Navy
  • Must obtain a North Carolina Teaching License
  • Instructors meet the physical readiness standards as set forth in the service regulations
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License with 90 days of employment

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Instructs the JROTC curriculum in accordance with district/state/Navy requirements. 
  • Develops short- and long-range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans.
  • Recruits cadets for program eligibility
  • Provides appropriate counseling to cadets on various facets of career/goals.
  • Adheres to government reporting requirements as required by service regulations on a timely basis
  • Plans and implements instructional programs that adhere to system-wide goals and priorities and meet the needs, interests, and abilities of students
  • Organizes, supervises, and, participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams, and other team-related activities
  • Maintains knowledge of current professional military standards, including physical fitness requirements
  • Creates an instructional environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of cadets
  • Communicates standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents
  • Maintains JROTC student records as required by military service regulations and local policies.
  • Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records. Monitors and assesses students’ academic progress. Oversees the appropriate use and care of textbooks, instructional materials, uniforms, facilities, and equipment.
  • Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, paraeducators, parents, and community members in the education of students. Attends staff meetings.
  • Proficient in the use of standard computer applications; Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff.
  • Keep daily progress records
  • Give training support to students who are participating in community environments, job training experiences, and other activities as directed by the teacher/provider
  • Operate and maintain classroom equipment as needed
  • Assist in crisis management and implementation of behavioral intervention plans/strategies
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal/Area Manager

  • Must be able to perform functions, typically assigned to other faculty members
