JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Education Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Administration

REPORTS TO: Compliance Officer

POSITION SUMMARY

• Oversees the employee education program and provides education to staff, and community as needed.
• Assists staff in preparing and providing staff education.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interacts professionally with the facility staff and department managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs.
• Coordinate staff educational requirements for facility.
• Develop and present new employee orientation material, in-services and continuing education programs for nurses and ancillary staff.
• Coordinate and conducts Nursing Skill Fairs.
• Serve as a resource person, consultant to nursing and ancillary staff members.
• Perform education needs assessment as appropriate.
• Maintains records for required annual health and safety education.
• Provide Basic Life Support [BLS] and First Aid classes for the hospital staff and community members/organizations.
• Coordinate Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) classes at the facility.
• Coordinate Kentucky Board of Nursing [KBN] Approved continuing Education Program for the facility; to include maintaining appropriate records and reporting to the KBN as needed.
• Facilitate a variety of educational classes and offerings and assist in conducting these offerings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION

Graduate of an approved school of nursing; Registered nurse with current license in the state of Kentucky; BSN preferred; Previous teaching experience preferred; Minimum of two years’ experience as an RN

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

• Must maintain CEUS as established by the KBN.
• Must be willing to take specialty courses and other educational offerings as indicated.
• Must be skillful in written and oral communication.
• Demonstrates moderate to advanced problem solving and time management skills.
• Must demonstrate the ability to direct personnel in a positive fashion.
• Must be self-motivated, and have the ability to prioritize and complete tasks/assignments within given time frames.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE

• Must demonstrate the ability to work independently.
• Proficiency in this position should be reached in 3-5 months.
• Effectively respond to challenges in a positive and professional manner to maintain morale and a high degree of cooperation.
• Must have the ability to interact appropriately with others in a number of settings including those that may be highly stressful, emotional and intense.
• Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Must maintain certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Must have adequate knowledge and skills necessary to lead and direct others.
• Must be able to function independently with minimal oversight and supervision.
• Must have sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
