ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: The Student Assistant for the Entrepreneurship Summer Camps is staff support for the successful execution of the summer camps during Summer 2024. The Student Assistants are responsible for providing workshops and lessons for the campers during the week, welcoming campers, and staying until all have left for the day. They will work closely with Student Innovation Idea Lab (SIIL) staff. The summer camps cover five weeks during summer 2024 from June 10 until July 12. This position will satisfy the 45 hours of early field experience to enter the teaching credential program, so it is ideal for undergraduate students pursuing a career in education.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate summer camp activities based around the topics designing and fabricating a new product.
  • Work directly with campers to achieve the week’s learning objectives
  • Play games with campers
  • Provide team building experiences between campers and other camp staff to build an environment of collaboration
  • Oversee the drop off and pick up process at the start and end of each day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be an existing Cal Poly Pomona undergraduate student.
  • Experience working with minors in any setting (sports, education, recreation, religious activities, and so forth).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6 months experience working with minors in sports, recreation camps, religious camps or similar activities where the candidate was directly involved with instructing, mentoring or guiding participants through a variety of activities.
  • Be a student seeking to obtain their teaching credential.
  • Experience with developing lesson plans and activities for children.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS

Before the start of the first week of camps, successful candidates will be required to complete the following training or certifications.

  • Mandated Reporter training (offered through CPP’s Staff Training portal, SumTotal)
  • A DOJ & FBI background check

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year.
