The Candler/Packer job is an entry-level position responsible for monitoring and removing poor quality eggs from the machine while in operation and/or packing cartons of eggs in cases, racks, or trays. Employees in this position are expected to focus on their safety, as well as their co-workers, maintain an organized, clean work area, and ensure product integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the quality of the product being packed meets or exceeds USDA requirements.
  • Remove poor quality eggs properly and in an efficient manner.
  • Comply with all USDA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices, SQF, Safety Programs, Biosecurity Policies, Plant Procedures, HACCP and Food Defense Programs.
  • Remove any B Grade eggs that the graders cannot identify and remove.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Immediately report any mechanical problems or poor quality conditions to the Plant Leads, Supervisors, or Maintenance staff where help is needed for repairs.
  • Follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Packing good product in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring there are no missing eggs, bad cartons, or cases. Removing cracked or dirty eggs and replace.
  • Ensure only quality eggs are packaged by checking dates/codes/color to ensure that all cartons are accurately coded and labeled to match the dates on the cartons.
  • Monitor quality of stamps on eggs when applicable.
  • Dispose of any eggs or trash dropped on the floor and place in proper trash receptacle.
  • When encountering recurring problems, notify machine operator or management immediately if you notice any packaging problems such as double cartons, wrong dates, or broken eggs.
  • Assist with training of other team members as needed.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by Processing Supervisor, Processing Manager, and General Manager.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience and/or training required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Detail oriented and ability to multi-task in high stress environment.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
