Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for training, supervising and assisting crew members in the Company's horticultural practices. Specifically, techniques required for mowing, edging, pruning, irrigation, fertilizing and pesticide applications. This position requires utilizing Company practices in landscape.
  • Works well with others in a team environment and is helpful and courteous to customers.
  • Train Crew Leaders to schedule specific tasks to be performed by crew members for each jobsite. Must direct a crew to accomplish work efficiently within the allotted scope of the job and time proposed while monitoring work performance.
  • Communicate with customers on-site on a routine basis to discuss the customers’ priorities and to inform the customer of scheduled maintenance tasks, progress reports, and courtesy call as required. Must be helpful and courteous to customers.
  • Assist in coordinating and supervising irrigation, pest control, and landscape enhancement activities.
  • Ensures company policy is strictly adhered to and safe, professional workmanship is practiced at all times.
  • Schedule job site walk through inspection with customers as required.
  • Ensure, through training practices, that crew members properly care for and use of power equipment in accordance with OSHA safety regulations. Ensure equipment is in good operating order and crew members are trained in proper and safe operations.
  • Effectively following time management practices. Assists in developing Crew Leader route binders.
  • Maintain and keep available in company planner customer addenda and expectation notes from Customer Service. Ensure Crew Leader also keeps current addenda and expectations in their planner.
  • Performs regular employee performance appraisals a minimum of one time per year for associated Crew Leaders and Gardeners.
  • Assists Operations and Account Managers with the implementation of the Employee Development Program and is available as a resource in the hiring of front-line employees.
  • Personnel Management includes, but is not limited to, disciplinary actions, promotions, raises, terminations and changes of status.
  • Must approve and ensure that all hours sheets, job billing sheets and other field reports are submitted on time and accurately to the administrative staff.
  • Will be provided through the course of work, confidential and proprietary information. In order to ensure the protection of this information, will be required to agree and sign a nondisclosure, noncompetition agreement.
  • Successfully pass all company training (certification) requirements of this position and associated positions, to ""fill-in"" for any working field position (Gardener, Crew Leader & Irrigation Specialist) in the event of absence.
  • Assist in preparing estimates, collecting production data, negotiating and renewing landscape maintenance contracts.
  • Knowledge of automatic irrigation operations including programming of controllers, valve troubleshooting, repair of lateral lines, sprinkler heads and drip emitters.
  • Complies with all established company policies and procedures.
  • As a salaried exempt employee, may be required to work after hours or on weekends to accomplish goals. Must arrive a minimum of 20 minutes before crews dispatch and 30 minutes after crew completed work day. Be available by cell phone weekdays until 5:00pm.

Physical Requirements of This Position's Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lift and carry, push and pull 20-50 pounds of landscape material and
    equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry on your back a 30 pound blower
  • Ability to start and use all power equipment without aid from others.
  • Ability to walk/stand/squat/kneel.
  • Make frequent repetitive movements with the left & right hand, wrist, ankle and knee.
  • Ability to twist/turn/bend the trunk of the body frequently.
  • Ability to lift and carry on back a 40 pound backpack sprayer.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs similar job related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Possess and utilize good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate
    with customers, employees, and manager.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Must possess a valid California drivers' license with a driving record acceptable to the
    company's insurance carrier.
  • Must possess a State Qualified Applicators License.
  • Must possess a Certified Landscape Technician Certificate in Maintenance.
  • Possesses knowledge for application of commonly used pesticides.
  • Bachelor's degree in the Agricultural Sciences or 30 semester units of agricultural
    related courses and two years of technical experience or equivalent field experience
    and customer communication skills.

Working Condistions While Performing This Position's Essential Functions:

  • Outdoor physical labor in temperatures ranging from 20° to heat of 100° and
    exposure to light rain.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise and pollutants related to the landscape
    industry (fertilizer, pesticide, etc.).
  • Machinery/equipment noise, traffic and hazards related to the landscape industry in a
    commercial environment.
