Senior Systems Layout Designer (BIW Body Shop) - Southfield, MI. Six-month contract position Pay Rate: $32.00 per hour maximum

Our customer based in Southfield, MI. is looking to fill a hybrid Senior Systems Layout Designer (BIW Body Shop) position. This opening is for someone with a background in AutoCAD/Factory CAD software experience.
System Layout/Faculty Mechanical Design I, AutoCAD and FactoryCAD 2020 or 2020 skills for Body Assembly, knowledge of i.e.., GM, Stellantis, Tesla, North American standards and specifications. Good understanding of BA (Body Assembly) GEO and Fixture Tools for Framing, Bodyside Systems, and Sub Assembly
Understands RIA, OSHA, and NIOSHA standards regarding robot guarding requirements and control panel placement. Have an understanding of customer specification (corporate and plant), standard, and local and/or national
Understand Installation Risk Assessment, PFMEA, Safety, and CER Risk Assessment and MFMEA
Strong knowledge of auto assembly strategies, i.e. part flow within an assembly plant/body shop, vendor coordination (importing Welding Guns, End of Arm Tooling, etc.) work in model space and paper space, basic understanding of how a GEO and Respot Systems function
Knowledge of how a robot moves and what joint stops will achieve the desired restricted areas, basic dimensioning skills, organizational skills
Modifying existing 3D and 2D models for "Kits" and create new designs for simple and intermediate and complex systems. Develop Kit Sheet showing before and after
Coordinate with and consult with Technical Leaders, Project Engineers, Sr. Mechanical Engineers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and resolve design or other problems
Computers - Knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
CAD Skills - High degree of competence in CAD platforms and associated applications software
AutoCAD skills and Factory CAD. Siemens NX and CATIA would be nice to have.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge & Skills of the Senior Systems Layout Designer (BIW Body Shop):
Plant safety requirements, Operator interface with Tooling
Dunnage requirements and placement, Various Panel requirements and placement
Fencing requirements, per customer
Experience designing cable tray and header, requirements/placement. Ex-pipe fitters from the build floor with AutoCAD skillset would be a plus
Understanding of Ergo requirements, in systems and zones, where human interaction is required
Basic tooling stack up and methodology and how it relates to system and tool stack up of system, zone, and sub
Proficiency to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Troubleshooting - Determining causes of mechanical errors, working with staff and deciding what to do about it
Knowledge of CATIA, NX. Pipe fitting/Header experience. Controls drawings for running Header
Minimum 5-10 years of work-related skills and experience is needed for these occupations. Pipe fitting and header experience. General AutoCAD experience
Associate degree or equivalent experience preferred
May be required to travel to other facilities, and customer sites to assist in the installation/start-up and final machine acceptance
Translation - Able to translate other CAD models into AutoCAD, SAT, IGES, JT, etc.
Robot Zones - Good understanding of how zones work within tools, systems
Team Meetings - Some travel domestically and internationally as necessary for project issues resolution and field checks
