The Engineer position resides in the Lab Services department at CableLabs. This department focuses on delivering testing services to external clients and internal project teams. Our team plays a crucial role in evaluating best-in-class test equipment, the latest residential and enterprise-grade DOCSIS equipment, and creating test strategies to validate technical requirements and performance objectives.

Why This Role Is Exciting

The position is responsible for contributing to testing engagements for internal and external stakeholders. You will be assigned as the primary lead on specific Acceptance Test Plans and will be trained as a backup on others. The impact of your work will provide engineering services in support of product and service development activities for the benefit of CableLabs, its member operators and the supplier ecosystem that supports them.

What You’ll Do

• Execute manual and/or automated test plans and test cases to validate customer premises equipment (CPE) devices and network access system requirements.
• Coordinate and assist with lab support and administration both technically and logistically.
• Setup connectivity, configure, and execute tests cases using commercial test equipment.
• Produce written documentation for test plans and system configurations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What Is a Must Have

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, or a related field.
• 5 years hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
  • Experience developing software/scripts in a client/server environment
  • Working with network protocols and standards
  • Understanding of statistical analysis (uncertainty, significance, relevance etc.)
  • Ability to learn and understand network protocols and standards
  • An understanding of RF principles and communications theory
  • Experience working in a lab with test tools

What Will Set You Apart

• Relevant certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, SCTE, or related certifications
• Hands-on experience with communication components/subsystems/systems and test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, noise generators
• Strong knowledge of PON and DOCSIS HFC network architectures, protocols, and industry standards, is desired.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation: The salary range is $113,375 to $138,625. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 20% of base salary.

This job operates in a professional office and lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment up to 50lbs.
