Summary:

This supervisor is responsible for the manufacturing resources required to meet customer requirements for Cablecraft products. He or she partners with manufacturing engineering, production employees, and maintenance team members to identify improvement opportunities, to perform root-cause problem solving, to implement improvements, and to turn improvements into standards. The ideal candidate for this position will be an excellent communicator with strong problem solving skills, driving continuous improvement of processes and people in a Union environment. This team player must have manufacturing engineering experience and/or a machining and assembly background.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Train, direct, schedule and supervise hourly employees.
• Timely and accurate completion of product confirmations, scrap recording, and filing of documents
• Assures that the start-up of the shift is efficient, that operators have the tools they need, and the proper order of parts is being run as defined by the schedule
• Will interface with other supervisors at shift change to be informed of any potential areas of concern, and to insure that the needed product is produced on the shift
• Implement Lean principles and drive continuous improvement in area of responsibility.
• Work with hourly staff for real time problem solving
• Read print specifications, use micrometers and calipers to check quality
• Communicate/cooperate with other departments regarding production needs
• Assure that all policies and procedures are followed
• Assure consistency in the application of all policies and procedures
• Development of standard work and maintaining its integrity
• Enhancement of Visual process tools
• Assure attainment of key metrics
• Calculation of monthly takt times and percent loads for areas of responsibility
• Individual must be a self-starter
• The supervisor is ultimately responsible for the quality of the product being produced in their area of responsibility
• Responsibility for resolving disciplinary issue’s with proper documentation
• Will maintain training documents, and Quality System requirements
• Will assist in grievance resolution
• Will assure that all employees are working in a safe environment

Qualifications / Training / Skill Requirements:

• Manufacturing Engineering experience a plus
• Knowledge of machining (drills, mills, presses, molders, CNC) required
• Lean manufacturing training (takt time & cycle time calculations)
• Able to read and understand machining prints and specifications
• Thorough understanding of Quality Systems specifically ISO 9000

Education Requirements:

• Associate/Bachelor degree preferred in related field
• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirements

• Five to Ten years of front line manufacturing supervision required (Union environment preferred).
• Application experience with Lean principles and continuous improvement
• Experience with scheduling resources to meet on time deliveries to customer requirements
• Computer literate (PC, Microsoft Outlook, SAP)
• Individual must have a proven track record of continuous improvement using a structured process
• Individual should have a working knowledge of product cost
• Implementation of SMED

Physical Demands:

• Stand, walk and talk in a machine shop environment for prolonged periods of time while performing tasks
• Work while exposed to noise, heat, cold, fumes and chemicals
• Regular shift is 45 hours per week
