JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for processing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, tracking orders, creating and maintaining an inventory, quality assurance and liaising with inventory teams and management. The buyer will work with staff across departments to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand. The successful candidate should be analytically minded, business saavy, able to build and maintain successful business relationships, possess excellent negotiating skills and be self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset. PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Interact with and manage the supply base to forecast, order and expedite inventory levels and process improvement. Source raw materials and components for the commodities used in the manufacturing process. Create and issue Request for Quote (RFQ) for raw materials, components, and supplies. Support the company’s goals and initiatives by maintaining appropriate inventory levels to maintain a 98% or better fill rate. Establish customer/supplier relationships. Address supplier quality issues. Manage Excess and Obsolete Material. Order material to supply the plant by using the ERP system functionality of creating and processing purchase orders from MRP created requisitions. Provide forecasting to the suppliers per the Supply Agreement. Reconcile any invoicing to PO issues. Closing open orders and expediting any orders. Provide support to the purchasing team. Handle supplier calls as needed. Maintain accurate records in compliance with Company policies and procedures. Negotiate with suppliers to leverage position and gain optimum terms, manage risk, and execute contracts. Continuously work on market analysis, emerging trends, and understanding the supplier market. Track and report commodity metric performance. Collect and prepare data for fact-based negotiations. Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or Associate’s degree plus 2 years of related experience. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Proficient at Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint). Self-motivated with the ability to work quickly and independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work in an accurate, detail-oriented and highly productive manner. Strong verbal/written communication skills and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and react quickly in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: Knowledge of purchasing techniques, negotiating skills, and conducting value and price-cost analyses. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for Extended Periods: The nature of the job involves sitting at a desk or workstation for extended periods while performing administrative tasks, using a computer, and engaging in various in-office activities. Computer Use: Proficient use of a computer, including typing, mouse manipulation, and viewing a computer screen for extended periods is essential. Manual Dexterity: Ability to use office equipment such as phones, photocopiers, fax machines, and printers. This may require fine motor skills and dexterity. Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of office supplies, documents, and other materials, typically not exceeding a certain weight limit (e.g., 20 pounds). Mobility: Ability to move within the office environment to access filing cabinets, printers, and other office equipment. Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders directly in person or via electronic communication. Visual Acuity: Ability to read printed and electronic documents, as well as distinguish colors, for tasks such as proofreading and reviewing documents. Multitasking: The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work effectively, which may require mental agility and adaptability.
