Cabarrus County is Hiring a TRANSPORTATION DRIVER SUPERVISOR Near Cabarrus County, NC

Description

Hiring range for this position is $48,838.40 - $58,385.60. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 18.
Must be 19 years of age or older with 3 years of clean driving record.

General Definition of Work:

Performs difficult technical and administrative work in the planning, scheduling and supervising of transportation services. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Transportation Manager. Supervision is exercised over subordinate employees.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Planning, scheduling and assigning transportation services.
  • Responsible for supervising, training, and evaluating staff and has substantial influence in hiring and other employment decisions.
  • Evaluating and coaching drivers through ride-along program.
  • Evaluating established transportation routes and procedures periodically or when problems arise. Recommending and/or implementing improvements as needed.
  • Conducting and/or arranging ongoing training to ensure compliance requirements are met.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations including DOT requirements for drug-alcohol program, annual DOT physicals and System Safety Plan management.
  • Preparing and maintaining transportation records and files.

Typical Tasks:
  • Provides information to the public on transportation schedules, policies and procedures.
  • Advises employees, citizens and County personnel regarding transportation schedules and programs.
  • Receives, responds to and resolves transportation problems.
  • Maintains driver training logs for drivers and vendors.
  • May serve as substitute transportation operator.
  • Maintains personnel time records and trip records
  • Reviews daily inspection sheets and removes vehicles from service if warranted.
  • Conducts accident investigations, takes photographs, and prepares reports.
  • Oversees the collection receipt of fares/tickets
  • Monitors Dispatch controls for compliance to schedules.
  • Reviews logistical data of existing services and adjusts as required.
  • Coordinates Department Safety Committee.
  • Assists in grant applications and annual budget preparation.
  • Participates in County Emergency Management Operations.
  • Performs work during emergency disaster situations.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of transportation principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of departmental objectives, equipment, programs and procedures; knowledge of RouteMatch software package; knowledge of effective supervisory practices; general knowledge of office practices and procedures; skill in the use of a variety of office machines, computers and applicable software applications; ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others; ability to express ideas clearly and accurately orally and in writing to persons of varied social, economic, cultural and educational backgrounds; ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of workers and communicate effectively; ability to collect, summarize and present detailed information; ability to read, analyze and interpret rules and regulations; ability to maintain detailed records; ability to work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, subordinates, other employees and general public; and ability to attend work regularly. Requires computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Minimum Education / Experience requirements

Education and Experience:
Requires an associate's degree from an appropriately accredited college with course work in business administration or a related field and considerable transportation experience at a responsible level. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must be 19 years of age or older with 3 years of clean driving record.
Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Must meet all DOT requirements for the position. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Position is essential as defined by the Inclement Weather Plan.
Physical Requirements:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
