Position Overview
As a Retail Operations Specialist, you will consult, direct, and manage all aspects of the assigned stores' department operations in a manner designed to maximize sales and gross margins, department market shares and increase revenue and profitability as applicable to department assigned, and provide positive customer experiences. You will ensure the effective utilization of personnel and available company resources and work closely with decision makers and independent store owners to assist with department specific sales and merchandising as well as increasing the volume of company products and programs, as applicable.

You will contribute by:
Maximizing department sales and gross profits (if applicable to assigned departments) using a combination of company programs and the past experience to provide direction, supervision, counsel and evaluations for the retail stores.
Providing counsel to store owners/managers/department managers on equipment and operating practices and/or product merchandising and selection, pricing, personal training and evaluating.
Observing and ensuring that all corporate store/company policies in assigned corporate stores are followed. When applicable or if necessary, suggest, submit or implement changes and additions to such policies in accordance with the guidelines in the company operations manual to correct deficiencies or to address problem areas that may not be adequately covered by existing policies or procedures.
Ensuring that assigned store departments are compliant with all state, county and local weights and measures laws, and labeling requirements are followed in the department.
Assisting store managers in interviewing, hiring, and training department managers and employees including planning, assigned, and directing work, rewarding and disciplining employees, developing personnel for future department management positions and addressing employee complaints and resolving problems in assigned departments when needed.
Making individual store visits and assisting store owners in achieving and maintaining business relationships with the company.
Implementing and adhering to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations including full compliance with all applicable laws pertaining to safety, sanitation, health and packaging requirements as applicable in all assigned stores.
Researching, creating, assisting, participating, and presenting new programs, special buys, promotion sale days, department merchandising/training seminars and special projects as applicable.
Being responsible to assist and supervise new store set-ups, resets, and staff training.
Monitoring labor scheduling and suggesting changes in department schedules in assigned stores.
Being responsible for corporate store department managers who supervise the employees within the stores' departments.
Observing and ensuring all assigned stores under labor contracts adhere to respective labor agreements.
Performing other duties and assignments as directed.
We’re searching for candidates with:
Familiarity with the nature and duties of every staff position in the department including procedures, policies and operations.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations of cutting tests; to calculate tare weight allowances; to analyze or calculate gross margins, yields, ratios, fractions, percentages and itemized pricing/proportion breakdowns for boxed deli/bakery; verify vendor invoice charges and counts; complete and submit required records and reports.
Ability to frequently walk, talk or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally, you must crouch or kneel; regularly required to sit; stand; and use the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools or controls.
Ability to hear, speak and understand the spoken word in order to respond promptly to in-store pages for assistance, to accommodate verbal inquiries from customers, to answer telephones, and to be able to communicate effectively with store owner/managers, department managers,, department employees, the store's co-workers, and customers, and sales representatives.
Ability to read, write, analyze, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency in order to read, understand, and/or present effectively: business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools; company handbooks, policies and procedures and other written job-related documents, e-mails and postings on company bulletin boards.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work with fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants and flowers without suffering negative allergic consequences that impact performance.
Sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests (due to accidental spills or breakage of glass or plastic containers having liquid contents), shoplifting and other security assistance requests, customer accidents, etc;
Ability to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents such as ammonia during routine housekeeping duties.
A valid driver's license and ability to travel between stores and stay overnight if required.
A full understanding of an Operator's License required by local ordinances, referred to as Bartender's License. License is necessary at store level to comply with having a person responsible on store premises, in a physical position to oversee the front end operation at all times alcoholic beverages are sold during saleable hours. Must meet all requirements as designated in State Statutes to be granted Operator's License in accordance with local ordinance.
Ability to pass Food Safety Certification or other required certifications.
Ability to pass company-directed training programs or modules.
2-5 years of experience in the grocery or supermarket industry; some background in accounting desired.
Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes workingone weekend a month.
