Overhead Doors is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help us in meeting our goals for 2022 and beyond. The Mechanical Engineer will perform engineering duties in planning and designing residential/commercial garage doors, hardware components, and other infrastructure. This role works collaboratively with internal and external customers, industry and building products experts, and other resources to develop these products and processes for the organization.

Our ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who is highly organized, experienced with engineering software, and who understands the need for being customer focused.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Estimate costs and submit bids for engineering, construction, or extraction projects, and prepare contract documents.
  • Establish or coordinate the maintenance or safety procedures, service schedule, or supply of materials required to maintain machines or equipment in the prescribed condition.
  • Evaluate mechanical designs or prototypes for energy performance or environmental impact.
  • Hydraulics, Electrical Systems (DC & AC), Controls (CAN, PLC, Ladder, Function Block)
  • Design Documentation – Modeling; Drawings; Mfg. Cut Lists and Nestings; Bill of Materials; QC Forms; Operator's, Maintenance, Parts, Etc. Manuals (Detail Oriented).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Mechanical Engineering
  • 2-5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MS Office, and Adobe applications
  • Tasks – Engineering Documentation Revisions (Drawings, Cut Lists/Nests, BOM"s, Manuals), Truck Evaluation and Machine Mounting Drawings, Emissions Regs – Flex Reporting, Parts & Pricing – Annual parts price review/updates, spare parts list generation

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Travel: This position has limited travel requirements of up to 10% per year.
