Job Title:  Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Manager

Location: Birmingham, Alabama headquarters

Initial Assignment: Alabama Project Location

Position Type: Full-time, On-site

C.3 Talent Partners is helping our client, a leading heavy industrial contractor based in Alabama in business for over 30 years, who is seeking a skilled and experienced Site Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Manager to join their team. As the Site QA/QC Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of construction activities at project sites, maintaining adherence to Owner quality procedures, project inspection requirements, specifications, and industry standards. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and a commitment to delivering projects of the highest quality standards.

The initial assignment will be QA/QC for a $200 million wood pellet manufacturing facility in Alabama. QA/QC oversight will be for concrete, steel erection, equipment installation and alignment for both static and rotating equipment, piping, pressure testing, etc. Future assignments may include QA/QC in the construction of cement plants, renewable fuels, steel manufacturing, power plants among others. Project locations will range from the Southeastern United States to Californian and Wyoming.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and Implement QA/QC Plans: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive QA/QC plans for each project and inspection and testing procures (ITP’s), standards, and inspection protocols to ensure compliance with project requirements and specifications.

2. Quality Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction activities, materials, and installations to verify compliance with project specifications, codes, standards, and quality requirements.

3. Non-Conformance Management: Identify and document non-conformance issues, deviations from specifications, and quality deficiencies, and work closely with project teams to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.

4. Material and Equipment Inspection: Coordinate and conduct inspections of materials, equipment, and components received on-site, ensuring compliance with procurement specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

5. Subcontractor Quality Oversight: Provide oversight and guidance to subcontractors to ensure their work meets project quality requirements and standards. Conduct inspections and reviews of subcontractor deliverables as necessary.

6. Document Control: Establish and maintain a comprehensive document control system to manage project documentation, including drawings, specifications, test reports, and quality records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and accessibility.

7. Quality Reporting: Prepare and submit regular QA/QC reports to project management, highlighting key quality metrics, inspection findings, trends, and areas for improvement. Provide recommendations for enhancing project quality performance.

8. Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives in QA/QC processes, procedures, and standards, leveraging lessons learned, best practices, and feedback from project stakeholders to optimize quality performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Construction Management, Quality Engineering, industry training or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in QA/QC roles within the heavy industrial construction industry.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) a plus
  • Safety: OSHA 10, 30 or MSHA trained
  • Strong understanding of construction quality management principles, practices, and standards.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations, such as ASME (including B.31.3 piping), AWS, API, and ASTM.
  • QA/QC experience with concrete construction, steel erection, equipment installation and alignment for both static and rotating equipment, pipe and vessel welding and testing, NTD testing, pressure testing, etc.
  • Proven experience in conducting quality inspections, audits, and evaluations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
  • Certification in Quality Management (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Manager) is a plus.
