The Butler County Probate Court’s mission is to serve the citizens, legal community and each other with loyalty and respect by protecting the personal and/or financial interests of those who are developmentally disabled, incompetent, mentally ill, or minors; overseeing the transfer of wealth and the administration of estates so that legal effect is given to the wishes of the deceased; properly maintaining and preserving court records for public access and issuing marriage licenses; adjudicating cases and controversies so that justice is administered with neutrality and impartiality, and disputes are resolved as efficiently as possible while maintaining confidentiality when required so that public confidence in the Judicial System is promoted.
Nature of Work in this Position
Conduct investigations and evaluations, and make recommendations for guardianships and mental health issues concerning alleged Respondents and Wards. Assist with service of notices and court hearings. Facilitate with guardianship education pursuant to the Ohio Supreme Court Rule 66. Act as the court liaison between various community groups and agencies.
Essential Functions

Review guardianship applications and investigate to determine the necessity of guardianship. Investigations can include interviewing alleged Ward, family members, and care providers. Prepare comprehensive reports with recommendations on guardianship and related matters for use by the court to determine the best interest of alleged Wards. Testify in court hearings as required to verify contents of report. Act as a liaison between the public and social service agencies and the court.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of family dynamics, mental health resources, and cultural competency. Ability to interpret Probate Court Rules, Probate Court policies and procedures, and applicable Ohio Revised Code.
Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.
Engage, assess, intervene and evaluate with individuals, families and organizations.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or human service-related field.
Active licensure and/or certification. Minimum of two years in related field.
Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
