Job Description
Under the supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director, the Sewer Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled work in daily maintenance activities of County sewer districts by performing daily inspections, daily maintenance, logging activities, responding to alarms on equipment. Performs daily maintenance activities, including preventative, routine, and emergency repairs. Performs routine and emergency maintenance. Job Duties
100.00% - ~ Follows safety rules;
~ Ensures wastewater facilities are operating properly including lagoon;
~ Cleans or lubricates vehicles, machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects, using hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment;
~ Removes snow and ice, overgrown grass, branches, trees at facility properties and grounds;
~ Performs preventative, routine and emergency repairs, and maintenance to equipment and vehicles, pumps, belts, motors; lift stations; conduct inspections on a set schedule;
~ Cleans out manholes and repairs sewer lines, using appropriate personal protective gear;
~ Ensures operation in accordance with established procedures including pulling of samples on a schedule and deliver to lab for analysis;
~ Performs locates of sewer lines for One Call;
~ Performs daily record keeping, including administering the preventative maintenance program, as well as compiling data for monthly reports to Kansas Department of Health and Environment/Environmental Protection; record all repairs, tests on pumps and flow meter recordings;
~ Monitors system and applies chemicals as needed;
~ Reads and understands blue prints, shop drawings, and electrical control schematics;
~ Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools, including, but not limited to: welders, machine shop tools;
~ Complies with safety policies, including appropriate safety equipment;
~ Reports hazards that cannot be corrected under ordinary maintenance;
~ Works rotating on call shifts as required, and responds promptly to after-hours emergencies;
~ Performs unskilled manual work as assigned;
~ Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Sewer Technician - ~ Ability to operate a truck, tandem-axle truck, loader, mower, weed eater and other related equipment;
~ Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties;
~ Ability to use computers, databases to track records;
~ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
~ Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
~ Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of an organization;
~ Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume;
~ Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
~ Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations;
~ Ability to convey and receive detailed or important instructions and information to and from other workers and the general public;
~ Knowledge of equipment maintenance, knowledge of emergency generators, pumps, motors, electronics, alarm systems;
~ Knowledge of county roads and geography;
~ Knowledge of safety operations or equipment.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; run; climb or balance and stoop, squat, bend, twist, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting, moving, pushing or pulling up to 25 pounds does generally occur. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Certificate,
License: Valid commercial driver's license. Subject to random drug and alcohol
testing. Class I
Wastewater Operator Certificate.
Required
Education and/or Experience: Two years related experience, High School Diploma or
G.E.D.; or Associate"s degree; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Employee is expected
to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job
reasonably well after six months in the position.
Preferred
Education and/or Experience: Three years
related experience, High School Diploma or G.E.D.; or Associate"s degree and
one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
