Job Description
Under the supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor, the Landfill Attendant is responsible for opening and closing of the Landfill six days a week during regular hours. The employee in this position collects fees and performs semi-skilled duties on the scale computer. Job Duties
100.00% - ~ Assists customers with questions and inquires;
~ Collects fees and makes change;
~ Performs data entry to record hauler information and generate weigh tickets;
County cash, balance cash drawer and make deposits;
~ Directs customers to the proper unloading areas;
~ Follows safety rules;
~ Generates end of day transaction report;
~ Maintains records on leachate disposal;
~ Maintains log report for special waste, tires, white goods;
~ Opens and closes landfill gates;
~ Prepares end of day transaction report;
~ Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Landfill Attendant - ~ Ability to handle money and make change accurately;
~ Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties;
~ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
~ Ability to write routine reports;
~ Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of an organization;
~ Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
~ Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form;
~ Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations;
~ Ability to convey and receive detailed or important instructions and information to and from other workers and the general public;
~ Knowledge of computer equipment;
~ Knowledge of landfill operations to comply with regulations and to direct customers to proper area.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Use of hands, wrists, and/or fingers for typing and paper handling.
