Job Description
This is a part-time position open to individuals with current certification through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for the Butler County Detention Facility.
Certified LEO/Detention Deputy part-time position summary:
The Butler County Detention Facility is an approximately 235 bed facility located in El Dorado, KS. In addition to housing local inmates, the Butler County Detention Facility also provides inmate housing for surrounding counties, US Marshal Service, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The PT Detention Deputy is responsible for the daily management of inmates in a direct supervision environment while maintaining safety and security therein. Duties include but are not limited to; Documenting and maintaining records of inmate activities, addressing inmate requests, performing security checks, identifying and responding to safety/ security concerns, conflict resolution. Job Duties
100.00% - ~ Assists with serving of meals to prisoners;
~ Books and processes inmates;
~ Supervises and checks prisoners on a half hour basis, conducts searches, pat downs, and inspections;
~ Dispenses commissary needs;
~ Dispenses medications and notifies physician of medical needs;
~ Maintains the jail in good and clean order;
~ Meets the public at the detention center and supervises visiting hours;
~ Monitors medical status of prisoners;
~ Notifies the Detention Corporal of supplies needed and orders supplies;
~ Records all activities of inmates, including phone calls and medical needs;
~ Transports prisoners to and from court and the doctor's office and other facilities as required;
~ Staffs reception area, reviews incoming and outgoing mail;
~ Assists attorney with inmate visits;
~ Reviews visitor profile and approves or denies visits;
~ Assists with phone/video issues that arise and either fix the issue or call the vendor;
~ Answers incoming calls at the facility;
~ Completes reports on activity, logs, and incident management;
~ Provides testimony for court;
~ Reviews housing logs;
~ Conducts security checks;
~ Processes booking of new inmates, as needed;
~ Notifies corporal of medical issues;
~ Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.Provides prisoner transport as needed;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Detention Deputy - ~ Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
~ Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs;
~ Ability to deal with inmate problems on a daily basis in a firm and equitable manner;
~ Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
~ Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small-group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization;
~ Ability to have good speaking skills;
~ Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables;
~ Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information;
~ Ability to maintain records and make written reports;
~ Ability to make sound and accurate decisions under stressful conditions;
~ Ability to operate a TV camera and video equipment, computer software, and other equipment;
~ Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos;
~ Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties;
~ Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written directives;
~ Ability to work under pressure, exercising good judgment in a variety of situations;
~ Ability to write simple correspondence;
~ Knowledge of appropriate methods to physically restrain combative inmates;
~ Knowledge of basic arithmetic;
~ Knowledge of basic drug identification and drug symptomatology;
~ Knowledge of bonding procedures
~ Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting solvents required for sanitation;
~ Knowledge of correct grammar and spelling;
~ Knowledge of crisis intervention;
~ Knowledge of due process as it applies to inmates;
~ Knowledge of facility policy, procedures and responsibilities concerning the operation of the detention facility;
~ Knowledge of Kansas statutes as they relate to the care, custody and control of adult inmates;
~ Knowledge of the operation of the court system, including procedures and security;
~ Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
~ Skill in interpersonal communication, oral and written communication;
~ Skill in recognizing changes in inmate behavior;
~ Skill in recognizing threatening symbols, situations, and language.

Lifting, moving, pushing or pulling up to 25 pounds does generally occur, in emergencies may be necessary to lift, move, push, or pull up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. Additional Information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Law Enforcement Officer.
Must have demonstrated a positive work history with a good attendance record
High School Diploma or GED
Currently possess or be able to obtain a valid KS Driver License upon selection
US Citizen
Ability to pass a written test, physical course, background investigation, drug screen and CVSA
