POSITION: Community Wraparound Parent Partner
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Wraparound facilitation is guided by a philosophy that empowers families and youth. A Parent Partner is someone who has lived experience of caring for someone with behavioral health needs (like mental health or substance use disorder), developmental disabilities, child welfare, juvenile justice, and/or the special education system. Because of their life experiences, Parent Partners have expertise that professional training and education cannot replicate & are an important part of Wraparound teams. A Parent Partner walks alongside a caregiver providing advocacy, while helping them find their voice and strengths. Parent Partners build relationships to connect others to natural supports and resources that best help their families. This position will help expand family support across Southwest Ohio.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (some college or bachelors in a related field preferred)
  • Experience caregiving for youth with complex or special needs
  • Desire to work with youth and families
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about the child serving systems in Butler & Warren County
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work independently without direct supervision Willingness/ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to operate with a non-judgmental attitude
  • Ability to respond with empathy & clarity
  • Willingness to learn about and work with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • History of good job attendance
  • Commitment to the principles of Wraparound
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Access to reliable transportation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Learn and implement the Wraparound philosophy and principles
  • Advocate for caregivers in various meetings and help them build self-advocacy skills
  • Equip caregivers in developing skills of listening, assertive communication, negotiation, problem solving, and collaborative goal setting
  • Attend Wraparound meetings in order to help caregiver share their opinions
  • Assist caregivers in understanding and navigating the child serving systems: schools, child welfare, mental health, developmental disability, juvenile justice and alcohol and drug addiction services
  • Share your own experience with systems to families in order to normalize and guide their experience Attend school, court or other service meetings on an as needed basis
  • Ability to relate, engage and connect with caregiver in order to build an appropriate working relationship Help prepare caregiver for upcoming meetings by going over agendas
  • Develop partnerships between families, schools, community and faith-based organizations that are responsive to child/family service needs
  • Help to connect the caregiver to their community and long-term supports
  • Help caregiver create a transition plan for life without a Parent Partner and after Wraparound
  • Upload case notes after all interactions with youth and families
OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
  • To serve as a role model for others in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  • To help instill in others the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, educational policies and procedures, behavioral health interventions, implications for HIPAA in all settings, public relations, and state and federal reporting Ability to: Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data, schedule appointments, and lift moderate amounts of weight
  • Skill in: Basic math, creative writing, English and communications
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Computer and office equipment
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District

EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

SALARY: Will be determined based upon education and experience
BENEFITS: Excellent benefits for all full time employees
WORK YEAR: Full time – 240 days 7.5 hours per day
