POSITION: Gifted Education Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The gifted specialist will coordinate gifted programming; ensure compliance with state regulations; coordinate testing and identification procedures; complete reports, records, and Written Education Plans (WEPs); and assist in providing high-quality professional development and auditing gifted programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

● Valid teaching certification for gifted instruction through the Ohio Department of Education.

● Three years of teaching experience in gifted education.

● Master’s degree preferred.

● Experience leading high quality professional development (especially for gifted educators), instructional coaching or mentoring recommended.

● Experience with coordination of gifted education, including gifted testing, preferred.

● Ability to collaborate and communicate with a variety of teachers, administrators, and other professionals.

● Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity in all aspects of our organization and the schools we serve.

● Strong organizational skills.

● Experience in using instructional technology, including online learning tools.

● History of good job attendance.

● Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.

● Must pass criminal background checks and be free from communicable disease.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

● Assist school administrators and teachers in understanding gifted programs, services, and compliance with state guidelines for gifted education.

● Participate in the development and revision of curriculum and instructional programs.

● Conduct gifted audits to assess current programs and services, as well as recommendations for improvement.

● Disseminate and interpret current trends and research related to gifted education.

● Assist school personnel in the collection and analysis of data for gifted assessment, evaluation and decision-making.

● Assist teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies to serve gifted students.

● Maintain appropriate records and conduct on-going evaluation of programs and services.

● Complete gifted testing, reports, and service plans as required for compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines.

● Provide professional development for gifted intervention specialists and general education teachers who serve gifted students.

● Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

● Comply with state and federal regulations that pertain to the position (e.g. OSHA, OCR).

● Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

● To serve as a role model for students and education professionals in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

● To help instill in students and education professionals the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

● : Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting.

● : Interpret policies and procedures, follow instructions, communicate effectively, maintain files and reports, collect data, schedule and lift moderate amounts of weight. Work successfully in a culturally diverse environment.

● : Basic math, English and communications, written and oral communication, planning and organization. Knowledge of current educational trends, methods, research and technology. In-depth knowledge of assigned curriculum, program or service area. Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data. Ability to work collaboratively with others.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: : Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board.The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

STARTING DATE: August 2024

SALARY: Based upon the approved Governing Board Salary Schedule

BENEFITS: Excellent benefits for all full-time employees

WORK YEAR: Full-time – 150 days
