BusPatrol is Hiring a Field Service Technician -Level 1- Richmond, VA Near Richmond, VA

Overview

Location: Richmond VA

Travel: 50-75% based on need; travel is typically 2 weeks on the road and 1 week working from home/locally

Travel Benefits: Flight, hotel and rental car provided by company, ultra-competitive per diems also provided; when working from home must have own vehicle to travel throughout local region (will receive mileage)

Education: Trade, vocational or technical school degree is preferred. ASE or similar certifications a plus; military training experience is also a plus

Salary: $21.15-31.73, dependent on candidate skillset/years of relevant experience. 

Experience/Requirements: minimum 1 year technician service experience installing/repairing/testing electro-mechanical equipment with a strong aptitude for mechanical troubleshooting; Ability to travel and work when school buses are not in operation; OT and occasional weekends may be required. Must be able to stand/bend for up to 8 hours and lift-up to 75lbs to shoulder height.

General Summary:

BusPatrol is recruiting for a skilled Field Service Technician to join our rapidly growing organization. Our Field Service Technicians support our Team Leads and Field Service teams in leading the installation and service of BusPatrol camera and communication equipment on BusPatrol customer fleets. They work with Field Service teams to meet installation and service schedules and maintain high quality standards. Our technicians perform installations and service according to defined operating procedures; performing routine troubleshooting and proposes solutions to service challenges.

 The position requires extensive travel; approximately 50-75% overall. Generally, field trips are 2 weeks out and 1 week home. Travel by air or driving as required based on distance. 

Responsibilities

  • Delivers on assigned install and repair quantities.
  • Records and communicates daily deliverables to team leads in a timely manner. 
  • Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Operates a variety of standard hand and power tools, analog/digital test equipment, and CCTV testing devices 
  • Runs wires, manages cabling, connects components, mounts devices, and effectively solves problems while maintaining a high quality standard.
  • Uses diagnostic equipment including multimeters & software to isolate wiring issues, network connectivity issues, equipment failures, and operational anomalies 
  • Uses signal flow to trace and resolve network cable issues 
  • Effectively terminates and tests basic connections such as butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks, others
  • Installs and terminates sub-devices (i.e., patch panels, junction boxes) and head-end equipment to include power and proper grounding 
  • Generates, evaluates, and implements solutions to routine problems. Provides basic level of system diagnostics and troubleshooting such as electrical connections or equipment issues. 
  • Uses information technology and related applications, including adaptive devices and software, to convey and retrieve information. Enters, transcribes, records, and maintains information in written or electronic/digital format, including adaptive devices and software.
  • Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds, resolving conflict appropriately and building trust with colleagues.
  • Plans and prioritizes personal work to manage time effectively and accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Identifies, moves, and stores construction and building materials for all types of installation and service activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and GED required; trade, vocational or technical school degree is preferred 
  • Strong mechanical, mathematical and reasoning aptitude is required
  • Minimum of 1 years technician service experience or schooling in an applicable field:
    • 12-volt electronics installs and service, OR
    • GPS or fleet telemetry installs and service, OR
    • Fire alarm installs and service, OR
    • Access control, CCTV, or intercom systems, OR
    • School or other transit bus mechanic
  • Able to travel to local/regional and national service sites:
  • Travel outside of your home territory is expected when deploying new customers. Deployment assignments are 2-weeks on, 1-week home with travel perks
  • Our work happens when school buses are not running. As such, you are willing to work overtime, nights, and weekends when required
