Description

Ready to join our expanding team of talented electrical engineers? Our Municipal Water and Wastewater team is growing its footprint in the Midwest and across the nation and seeking to add a Staff Electrical Engineer.

The Staff Electrical Engineer designs and specifies electrical systems associated with municipal and industrial water/wastewater treatment facilities (drinking water plants, sanitary sewer plants, refineries, power plants, manufacturing and food processing facilities, etc.). Electrical systems include low and medium-voltage power, lighting, SCADA and process controls, voice/data communications, fiber optics, emergency power systems, UPS, security systems, CCTV, and fire alarm.

The engineer in this role will work with project managers, lead electrical engineers, designers, drafters, estimators, and other engineering disciplines to ensure that project quality, budget, and schedule are met. This role also offers career growth opportunities for leading electrical and/or I&C-specific projects as well as participating in projects utilizing various delivery methods to create world-class designs meeting our client’s needs.

  • The Staff Electrical Engineer will lead smaller projects and support senior electrical engineers on larger projects in the design and specification of electrical systems associated with municipal and industrial drinking and wastewater pumping facilities and treatment plants from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Electrical systems include low and medium-voltage power, lighting, SCADA and process controls, process instrumentation, voice/data networking, fiber optics, emergency power systems, UPS, security systems, CCTV, fire alarm, and commercial/industrial facility building systems.

  • Research and compile project related data as required.

  • Apply strong knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects, including drinking water, wastewater, distribution & collection and industrial applications.

  • Assist lead electrical engineers in preparing the following studies for water and wastewater treatment electrical and control systems: power supply studies, short-circuit studies, coordination studies, and arc flash studies.

  • Update drawings provided by senior engineers and verify corrections are completed.

  • Perform field inspections, measurements, and calculations for public and private clients.

  • Develop engineer’s opinion of probable construction costs for Electrical portions of projects at various phases of design.

  • Provide construction administration support, including submittal review, procurement, response to Contractor’s requests for information, review and approval of change orders, and development of record of construction documents.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams across multiple office locations.

  • Assist senior electrical engineers with training and mentoring assistant level electrical engineers.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1-year experience.

  • 3 years of electrical engineering experience; consulting in the water and wastewater industry is preferred.

  • Successful completion (i.e. passing) FE/EIT is required.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is not required but is a plus. If not licensed, then the applicant must have licensure as a goal.

  • Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Application of codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA 820, NFPA 70E, or ISA

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu.

  • Familiar with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, REVIT, Plant 3D)

  • Familiar with SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower

  • Familiar with AGi32 or Elumtools.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
