Burlington High School is accepting applications for a Reading Specialist for the SY24-25 school year. Burlington High School is looking to hire a licensed Reading Specialist to deliver Tier 3 instruction in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Science of Reading and experience in improving student outcomes by implementing research-based and evidenced-based interventions, programs, techniques, and strategies. Other responsibilities include planning and delivering differentiated reading instruction to target phonological awareness, comprehension, and fluency, and administering assessments to routinely gather data for progress monitoring and curriculum development. Essential skills include the ability to collaborate with other educators and team members to best meet the needs of a diverse group of students, as well as strong interpersonal skills in order to develop positive, meaningful, and supportive relationships with students and colleagues. Experience working with English Language Learners and students with educational plans is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:
    • Bachelors Degree or Arts or Science Required.
    • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
    • Endorsement in Reading (76) or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
    • Experience in reading instruction/interventions
    • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Attributes :
    • Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.
    • Experience with instruction at the high school level
    • Experience in a professional/teaching learning community; experience in co-teaching/collaborating with other educators.
    • Evidence of student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
    • Evidence of implementing inclusive practices for students with special needs.
    • Ongoing educational post graduate coursework in education or subject area, including diversity, equity and inclusion.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:
  • SALARY: As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a salaried position paid Bi-Weekly with a lump sum payment for the summer period.
  • SCHOOL YEAR: 10 months, 187 workdays (based on start date), 7.5 per day/38.5 per week
  • BENEFITS: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
  • PAID TIME: Sick Time / Personal Time As per the Master Agreement .
