Bureau Veritas is Hiring a Permit Technician - CAP Government (Ft Lauderdale, FL) Near Fort Lauderdale, FL

We are seeking the immediate hire of a Building Permit Technician for our office in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The person in the role should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and a team player. Primary duties will include assisting home owners, contractors, and others who are applying for permits with the routine and technical information related to the issuance of building permits. This may include routine information related to routine building code requirements and ordinances as well as assisting the public in completing applications and other required forms. The position is office-based and may require sitting or standing for long periods of time.

Responsible for specialized processing services for building permits. This position is heavily customer service-based, therefore it requires a strong and excellent customer service approach with internal and external customers. The candidate will provide information and guidance regarding procedures for all types of building permits, which includes reviewing all the information and/or documentation that is required on the permit applications.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides information and guidance to the general public regarding application procedures for all types of building permits.
  • Reviews permit applications for provisions of all required information and/or documentation.
  • Distributes applications for necessary reviews.
  • Monitors progress of permit review.
  • Verifies completion of all required reviews and notifies applicant of approved permit.
  • Serves as liaison between reviewing agencies and applicant.
  • Performs specialized processing functions for permits.
  • May be assigned as special liaison with high volume customers.
  • Tracks permit through inspection process to advise customer of status, problems, and final approval.
  • Maintains building permit packets with detailed files of official records pertaining to the process.
  • Addresses public records requests.
  • Answers phones and assists customers at the counter.
  • Handles customer questions and issues regarding permit requirements; refers technical questions to appropriate staff and advises customer of action taken as necessary.
  • May be involved in imaging documents using small and large-format scanners.
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.
  • May be assigned to other office locations based upon operational needs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum education required: High school graduate (or equivalent)
  • 3 years of general clerical experience required, which includes 2 years of strong customer service experience. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience with related job skills may
    be substituted for the minimum requirements.
  • Preferred candidate will have 2 years of experience working in construction, building, or permitting.
  • Knowledge of permit processing procedures, local government offices & functions, and construction terminology preferred.
  • Must be able to handle all kinds of people and deal with the public in a friendly, courteous manner.
  • Bilingual in either Spanish or Creole is preferred.
  • Computer savvy. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and able to work with different software and databases. Permitting software experience is preferred.
  • This role based in our office. You may occasionally be asked to travel to other offices or sites based on operational needs. We are not able to accommodate work-from-home situations for this opportunity, given the nature of the work.
