Speech Language Pathologist

DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days

SALARY: Based on Bulloch County Schools salary/supplement schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Education

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, collaborating with colleagues as appropriate. Creates and maintains a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students, and supportive of all students. Creates a standards-based classroom by employing the instructional methods and philosophy of the Georgia Performance Standards. Employs differentiation strategies to assist/challenge all students and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to assist those who are not being successful. Monitors and evaluates students’ outcomes, communicating appropriately with staff, students, and parents and focusing on achievement growth of all students. Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records. Engages in continuous professional development and renews certification in a timely manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of subject matter and appropriate instructional methodologies. Ability and training necessary to effectively utilize technology in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of instruction. Evidence of exemplary human relation skills. Evidence of exemplary organization and planning skills. Evidence of ability to work effectively with students and parents.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.
  • Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and accountable.

  • Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK (1).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and meets certification requirements as established by the Georgia Department of Education.
  • Certified in field and meets all requirements as defined by ESSA.
  • Valid certification in the field of speech therapy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete designate follow-up procedures for students referred for special education service.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and review the Individual Education Program (IEP) of each student on the caseload, at least annually.
  • Work with parents in all aspects of their child’s educational program and facilitate improved communication skills.
  • Collect and maintain accurate and descriptive records on all students on caseload.
  • Provide appropriate speech/language screening and diagnostic service.
  • Collaborate with regular education and/or special education educators on an ongoing basis.
  • Refer students to other specialists as needed.
  • Assure all due process procedural safeguards are afforded students and their parents.
  • Provide effective therapeutic services according to established program guidelines and through appropriate service delivery models.
  • Use special methodology for instruction, according to the population needs.
  • Administer, on an on-going basis, evaluations of student progress towards mastery of established goals and objectives specified by system’s recommended program report guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource to the regular education teachers and administrators regarding the needs of all children with communication needs.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Education in Georgia, as established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.
  • Participate in training programs and apply concepts learned in the classroom to increase student learning.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
  • Provides instruction based on state and county expectations, assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and providing progress reports as specified by administration.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing students conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional material, monitoring appropriate use and care.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, county policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety of students under his or her supervision in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance
  • Provides adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teachers.
  • Carries out such other duties that may be assigned by the principal.

PERFORMANCE FACTORS: 

  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.   • Concentration: Ability to maintain workflow and thought processes in the presence of frequent distractions. Ability to ignore irrelevant sights or sounds and intrusive thoughts or stimuli. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with only few or no errors.
  • Stressful Circumstances: Ability to produce quality work when short or unexpected deadlines are presented. Ability to adjust work processes without incident when new and unexpected directions are given relative to a project that may be in process. Ability to maintain composure and not compound a situation when interacting with persons who may be angry, demanding or otherwise less than polite.
  • Independent Judgment: Ability to complete work tasks without being given precise directions relative to work steps or the final project.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks; and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline.
  • Public Contact: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues, parents, and other individuals within and external to the school system. Ability to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with others and to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Attendance and Dependability: Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
