The primary function of the Behavioral Specialist is to support students as they develop skills needed to succeed in the school environment. Student needs vary significantly, ranging from severe behavioral issues and/or learning difficulties to students with developmental needs, including self-help and impaired social and cognitive functioning. A Behavioral Specialist may serve as a rover between classes or may be assigned to a specific student.

THE POSITION

The Intervention Specialist provides direct intervention for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities in a school setting.

  • Develop targeted strategies to reduce problematic behaviors and encourage productive behaviors through means such as positive reinforcement.
  • Implementing targeted behavioral plans
  • Providing ongoing assessments of progress
  • Help children with developmental and intellectual disabilities make positive differences in their lives.
  • Provide direct 1:1 intervention to a child or adolescent with a developmental disability in accordance with the plan for treatment
  • Provide regular written and verbal progress updates on treatment goals
  • Collaborate and coordinate services with treatment team members in various settings, including but not limited to teachers, Ancillary Services (PT, OT, Speech), clinicians, etc.
  • Provide daily documentation on the progression or regression of goals
  • Participate in staff meetings

Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old and
  • Bachelor’s Degree in human service field, or Bachelor’s Degree in a non-human service related field with 24 minimum upper division semester credits in human services field
  • Training and experience working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors which interfere with their learning or the learning of others.
  • One year of supervised experience working with children with developmental disabilities is required.
  • Criminal background check through DHW (provided)
  • Complete 40 hour RBT training in ABA (provided by the agency).
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (provided)

PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Demonstrate an understanding of behavior intervention programs for students with severe behavioral challenges by implementing individualized programs as directed by the teacher and/or supervisory staff.
  • Keep and maintain reliable and valid data on behavioral programs and systematic reinforcement systems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of research based instructional strategies for students with severe behavioral challenges by implementing individualized strategies with reliability and validity
  • Adhere to State and Federal Guidelines, including Mandated Reporting, HIPAA, and Fraud, Waste and Abuse policies

Experience:

  • behavioral/mental health: 1 year (Preferred) or RBT certification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
