Buist Electric is Hiring a Testing Technician Near Center, MI

  • Location: Byron Center

Job Purpose

Buist Electric's Testing Department is looking for a skilled Journeyman Electrician or 3-4 year apprentice to add to our growing team. The technician will assist with acceptance testing, electrical system maintenance, testing, predictive inspections, installations, and service calls.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Journeyman electrician license
  • Strong commitment to safety, ability to work safely independently or with a team
  • 5 years industrial electrical experience
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • High school diploma
  • Driver’s license

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to perform acceptance testing, maintenance testing, preventative maintenance, and predictive inspections
  • Read and understand manuals, blueprints, and schematics
  • Stay apprised of revisions to National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Complete and maintain job related documentation (i.e. Drawings, work orders, and test results)
  • Communicate effectively with Co-workers, Customers, Project Managers, and other trades
  • Practical safeguarding of all personnel and property from hazards
  • This position requires a highly detailed, timely individual with complex problem solving skills

Qualifications and Skills

  • Detail oriented
  • Strong communications skills, ability to interact well with team members, other skilled trade professionals, designers, and customers
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Ability to adapt to complex situations and work under pressure
  • Knowledge and understanding of the of National Electric Code, state and local building codes
  • Use of testing equipment and hand tools
  • Knowledge or strong desire to learn about electrical system maintenance and testing
  • Ability to read and understand a basic electrical schematics for controls
  • Ability to read and understand a basic electrical one line
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
  • Experience with medium voltage systems or desire to learn and apply once trained
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Bluebeam

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to (50) pounds
  • Ability to distinguish shades of color
  • Standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, repetitive motions
  • Exposure to occasional outside weather conditions, heat and cold, noise, moving components, and equipment

Hours

  • 45 hour work weeks
  • Weekend, off shift, and Holiday work is anticipated
