Company DescriptionAGENCY SUMMARY: Based in San Leandro, Building Futures is an Alameda County leader providing a safety net of services to help individuals and families rebuild safe and stable lives after homelessness and family violence. To accomplish this aim, the agency provides a continuum of care including two homeless shelters; a domestic violence safe house; a full spectrum of domestic violence outreach services; a transitional and permanent housing site; and rapid rehousing programs which serves target populations including military veterans, families reuniting after CPS involvement, survivors of domestic violence, and others.Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY: The Shelter case manager provides case management services for women and children at emergency shelters, including assistance with obtaining housing, developing life skills/income, and achieving greater self-determination. The Case Manager is supervised by the Program Director and works closely with the Senior Resident Advocate in general shelter operations and works as part of a collaborative service team. The Shelter Case Manager must be flexible in their work and schedule and is supportive in their interaction with staff and clients. This person must be genuine in leadership style, detail-oriented, organized, skilled in conflict management, written and verbal communication, and be able to perform with multiple interruptions and multitask projects. This individual should be well versed in the following competencies: Communication Proficiency, Ethical Conduct, Personal Effectiveness/Credibility, Leadership/Navigation, Consultation, Relationship/ Conflict Management and De-escalation Techniques, Thoroughness, Decision Making and Business Acumen.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Shelter Case Management:Conduct resident intake, including assessments and safety planning within the first one to three days of a resident’s stay.Develop comprehensive service plans for each client and monitor client progress and service delivery during their stay.Provide weekly and ongoing case management services.Assess and refer clients to mainstream resources and support programs when appropriate, including life skills, employment, mental health, childcare, transportation, and education programs, and act as an advocate to help clients successfully access these resources.Work with service staff at health and human services programs, job training programs, and affordable housing programs to make referrals and secure needed services and support.Conduct at least two education/support group meetings per week.Provide 24-hour on-call response for shelter sites on a rotating basis.Participate in weekly case conference meetings to review and discuss client and service delivery issues.Assist in ensuring shelter services are coordinated, client-centered and consistent with the agency’s mission.Responsible for health and safety of clients and staff while at shelter siteAttending outside meetings representing the agency as needed.Other duties as assigned by supervisor or as needed.Shelter Operations Maintain accurate client records, collect statistics and submit monthly reports.Assist Senior Resident advocate.Provide shift coverage as needed.Assist Senior Resident advocate with upkeep on shelter operations.Attend and participate in shelter and agency staff meetings as scheduled.Schedule staff for shifts on a monthly basis.Co-facilitate weekly house and monthly staff meetings with Senior Resident advocate.Coordinate with other sites and programs within the agency.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED: Minimum of two years case management and/or direct service delivery, preferably working with issues of homelessness and/or domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health, and child abuse preventionAbility to interact in a supportive and professional manner with a diverse population of women and children.Ability to handle multiple tasks, including service provisions, documentation, rule enforcement and crisis intervention.Ability to build individual life skills, including family finance and budgeting skills.Ability to interact in a supportive and professional manner with a diverse population of women and children.Available to work occasional weeknights and/or weekends as needed.Knowledge of Alameda County resources for homeless and underserved populationsExcellent oral and written skillsValid California Drivers License and access to personal automobile.Certification required as Certified Domestic Violence Counselor (training offered soon after hire if needed)Ability to complete statistical reports in a timely manner.Additional InformationPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING:The work environment and physical demands described are representative of those required by employee to perform to the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.Ability to work at a desk or computer workstation.Ability to perform repetitive office tasks.Ability to review a wide variety of materials in electronic or hard copy form.Sufficient manual dexterity to enable the employee to operate a personal computer, phone, and related equipment.Must be able to lift 25 pounds.COMPENSATION: Building Futures offers competitive salary based on experience and skills of employees. This is a full time non-exempt position and the annual salary for this position is offered at $62,400.
