POSITION: Mechanical Service Assistant (HVAC Helper) DEPARTMENT: Operations CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt SUMMARY: General Responsibilities: The Mechanical Service Assistant (HVAC Helper) assists with handling job start-up, checkout, and troubleshooting for systems and service installed jobs. Assists with mechanical related duties, including service agreement tasks and handles emergency calls as directed. Reports to: Assigned Service Technician Direct reports: None Direction:
Minimal supervision.
Requires self-motivation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 100% Assists with mechanical system inspections, service and troubleshooting.
Including mechanical inspections of boilers, chillers, pumps, etc.
Completing final critical adjustments and calibration on mechanical / control equipment following owner's manual instructions.
Assists with wiring checkout and assists in automation systems start-ups.
Assists with written reports covering all aspects of each assignment, including customer, nature of trouble, equipment involved, time and material used, travel, and any other expenses.
Performs service agreement tasks as directed.
Assists with diagnosing trouble or defects in sensors, field cabinets, control console, or mechanical systems and determines corrective action.
Assists with disconnecting and dismantling instruments as necessary and corrects trouble or defect by adjusting, repairing or replacing parts or units.
Must be able to recognize safety hazards and understand how to safely overcome them without causing harm to yourself or others.
Understand the safety rules and regulations outlined in the BCS safety manual.
QUALIFICATIONS: Skills and Experience
Experience in the HVAC industry, preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Mathematical abilities to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and create and interpret graphs.
Problem solving ability.

Valid driver license
