The Job:

Buildertrend is looking for a Product Designer to work with us on our project management software for home builders and remodelers. Product Designers at Buildertrend design product solutions for defined problems, pulling from existing knowledge and doing specific user research to better define the problem space and solution. Our Designers embrace conflict over comfort, are flexible but persistent, work closely with their product partners, default to action, and own a perspective. As part of our team, you will partner with other designers, your product design manager and design lead, product managers, developers, and other cross-functional partners.

As a Product Designers you will:

  • Work closely with your product manager and developer(s) to create solutions for our users

  • Leverage existing quantitative and qualitative user research to inform and make decisions on design direction

  • Investigate gaps in understanding of user challenges using data analytics and user research

  • Create right-sized solutions based on user research, business needs, and requirements

  • Validate solutions through prototyping and other research activities

  • Support developers in pragmatically addressing challenges during implementation

  • Refine solutions iteratively after release through user feedback

  • Work with Lead Designer and Product Manager to understand our experience vision, understand feedback on work, and to grow your design skillset - hard and soft skills

  • Be an active and contributing member to the Product Design team, sharing your work for feedback and review and helping your team with your feedback and reviews on their work

As a Product Designer you have:

  • A bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field experience

  • 2 years of relevant work experience as a UX and/or Product Designer

  • Knowledge of design concepts and principles, including design thinking, user-centered design, and UX and UI design

  • Practical design skills and the ability to execute the product design process from end to end—from research and ideation to wire-framing prototyping, and user testing.

  • A UX/product design portfolio showcasing your approach to solving (and communicating) a variety of design problems using creativity, critical thinking, and fluency in best practices of user-centered design

  • Proficiency with Figma, Adobe CS (including XD), or other design tools

  • Experience in user research techniques including user interviews and usability testing

  • Ability to effectively communicate research results and design decisions

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment

  • Experience with a variety of UX design deliverables including rapid prototypes, user stories, concept sketches, storyboards, information architecture, interaction design, interface (UI) design, visual design, and infographics

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and ability to design products that can be efficiently produced at scale
