Summary of the role:
We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant who will be responsible for a variety of accounting activities of the Finance/Accounting Department, specializing primarily in the preparation of annual and interim premium tax returns and the premium tax accrual. In addition, may specialize in financial reporting or general accounting. Performs activities requiring knowledge of insurance, of company operations, as well as statutory and generally accepted accounting principles. Able to read, analyze and interpret various accounting journals, registers and directives. Will have a significant role in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process for all Builders-related companies. Responsible for the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of local and state returns, tax-related schedules and reports. Prepares other compliance filings as required by state regulatory authorities. Will review tax regulations to ensure all regulations are met by our organizations.
What would be your day in the life at Builders?
- Preparing annual and interim premium tax return filings.
- Ensuring that state specific required filings are completed timely and accurately.
- Assisting in preparation of industry required quarterly and annual statements.
- Preparing month-end journal entries including supporting workpapers and account reconciliations.
- Assisting in budgeting of expenses, preparing state and federal tax deposits and working on special projects and/or requests from management.
What skills will you need?
- BS/BA degree in Accounting.
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Tax Accountant or tax experience.
- Property & Casualty insurance industry experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Statutory Accounting preferred.
- Experience with Great Plains software preferred.
- Experience with Sovos Wings software preferred.
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels, both inside and outside of the company.
- Possess analytical skills and effectively manage multiple job duties in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail coupled with initiative to follow through on completion of deliverables.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and good MS Office skills, as well as ability to learn new software applications.
