Position Summary:
The Grant Writer (GW) is a critical team member responsible for securing grant funding, which supports approximately 40% of the general operating budget. The GW will manage a robust portfolio of existing and potential funding sources, requiring a solid combination of skills in grant writing, time management, organization, detail-oriented, documentation, communication, and teamwork.
The GW will inherit a robust portfolio of long-term and committed funders. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone to play a key role in contributing to the organization’s growth and ensure that BUILD has a vibrant culture of philanthropy. 
This position is a member of the National Development Team and reports to the Boston Director of Philanthropy. The GW will support the grant needs for the Boston region and become a member of the Boston team; however, may have opportunities to support the National Office and other Regions, as needed. The GW will be a part of a talented group of colleagues across BUILD’s regional and national departments who serve as thought partners and support to one another.
Position Responsibilities include 
Grant Writing –
Track, write, and submit compelling applications for mostly corporate and foundation funding opportunities 
Grant Reporting –Track, write, and submit progress and final reports, including compiling necessary information from program and finance staff, in a timely manner.
Knowledge Building - Develop an exceptional working understanding of BUILD’s program, data, funding priorities, and strategic plans to use in grant submissions and reports.
Pipeline Development – Increase BUILD’s pipeline by sourcing new funding opportunities aligned with BUILD’s mission. Research target foundations’ grants, awarded amounts, guidelines, and deadlines.
External Communications - Support the execution of quarterly regional email communications to update BUILD’s stakeholders on the impact of their support and partnership in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and the National Communications team.
Operations - Lead grant-writing operations, including updating the Grant Toolkit with current program information and data and working with the National development team to share and organize content that is current, easy to source, and reflective of best practices across regions.
Documentation and Tracking - Ensure timely entry of opportunities, actions, meetings, and other relevant information and communications in the CRM (Raiser’s Edge). Utilized the CRM for tracking and managing grant-related deadlines.
Communication and Team Work - Ability to work with a diverse and multidisciplinary team and lead or participate in meetings with funders.
Participate in weekly team meetings and annual retreats and support programmatic events as needed (this may include virtual engagement in student sessions or assistance to an all-hands-on-deck event.) These time commitments are flexible, but candidates should expect in-person engagement at least 1-2X per quarter.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing, organizational, time management, communication, and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite; Google apps). The candidate must be highly organized, use independent judgment, and produce a consistently high-quality work product within tight time constraints and competing deadlines.
  • Passionate commitment to BUILD’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • At least 2-4 years of proven success with grant writing with a strong understanding and experience in managing the range of responsibilities and tasks of a GW and successful grant writing.
  • Familiarity with donor management software, Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit organizational budgeting and/or creation of grant proposals and report budgets.
  • Working knowledge of prospect research methods for institutional donors.
  • Ability to work in partnership with others to complete assigned projects; experience in effectively collaborating with remote colleagues desirable.
  • Ability to thrive in a creative, dynamic, deadline-driven environment with humor and flexibility.

Position Details:
  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week, self-directed. 
  • Location: Boston preferred but open to candidates residing in MA, NH and RI. This role is primarily remote/flexible, with in-person commitments including BUILD staff meetings, retreats, and program events in Boston (approx. 1-2X per week) 
  • This is a Boston-specific position that reports to the Boston Director of Philanthropy.
Compensation:
The salary for the Grant Writer position ranges from $70-80k annually in accordance with BUILD’s equity focused salary bands. BUILD offers a competitive benefits package for eligible employees. This includes employer paid medical, dental & vision coverage, flexible spending accounts (FSA), employer paid life insurance, and a 403(b) plan with match. In addition, eligible BUILD employees qualify for generous vacation, sick, paid Federal holidays, and December 24 through January 1 off, a flexible work environment, professional development and additional stipends for stretch projects.
