Excellent opportunity for an experienced Nurse Practitioner (Family Health/Adult) who is caring, compassionate, and up for a different kind of challenge. Full time position doing primary care for patients with severe and persistent mental illness in a 188-bed psychiatric hospital. Join a team of dedicated medical providers, each with a typical assignment of one 26-bed unit as well as coverage of other units as needed. Responsibilities include admission and annual H Ps, ongoing weekly and monthly progress notes, management of day to day and urgent/emergent medical concerns, and patient education. Work collaboratively with Psychiatry. Wide variety of patients and pathology. Hours are generally 8 – 4:30 Monday through Friday with no obligation to work weekends, holidays, or overnight. No call. Friendly and collegial atmosphere with opportunities for CME weekly onsite.
No need for malpractice insurance
Providers working for NYS are indemnified. State Law §17 defense and indemnification protection is much broader in scope than typical medical malpractice coverages.
No need to look for tail insurance if you leave state service.
No ‘non-compete’ clause. Outside employment activities are allowed so long as they do not pose conflict with the BPC position.
